Hopefully this "panel of experts" will give recommendations for changes to rankings to perfect them, as I'm sure they can make many of the same comments that we have made here. The one that sticks out for me is Tour of Oman is ranked lower than Tour of Qatar, when these are raced by pretty much exactly the same riders!

Simple: Mark Cavendish could possibly win the Tour of Qatar. The Tour of Oman, not so much.

How are the French National Champs in Tier Four along with Slovenia, Canada, Luxembourg etc?

Seems to be based on edit:last years UCI Nations rankings. Top 6 get to be tier 3, next 14 are tier 4.

While we're in nitpicking mode. Why doesn't the Criterium International count? A race won by some of the biggest names in cycling, and always hotly contested by a great field. Surely if the Franco-Belge or Tour of Colorado can find a place on this calender, so should the Criterium International.

because the criterium international is silly.

Frankly any race organisers that are so anal that they follow the rules to the letter and eliminate half their field on a mountain stage dont deserve a place on the list. (same goes for three days of de panne) :D

That's not the real reason right?;)

I see the Driedaagse van de Panne is missing as well, although it's the most important stage race in Belgium (at least Michel Wuyts seemed to think so, but with Gilbert winning the Ronde van België this year, he may have changed his mind. It's much, much more important than the Franco-Belge at least).

Another interesting thing is Dan Martin in 14th, ahead of Cadel Evans, to name just one. How is that possible?

Martin has a lot of good results in the last 12 months. He won the Tour of Poland, and a stage, Tre Valli, Japan Cup and Toscana. He came third in Catalonia, second in Emilia, etc. The issue seems to be less that he's ranked so high and more that Evans is ranked so low, despite very good results in better races.

Evans is 19th on CQ and Martin is 22nd and they are only 37 points apart, not really a major difference from 16th and 14th.

Yep, Evans barely got any points last year after the Tour, so almost all his points are from this calender year.

How is it possible that Cav is 4th? This ranking makes no sense. Winning few stages in the Giro makes him higher positioned than the runner ups of the giro?? weird
