I wouldn't consider Adam Yates a candidate, but if Mikel Landa is in that poll in 2026, or Arensmann, who has failed in all his attempts, then A.Yates should be included.

If Almeida doesn't recover from his problems, I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up being his team leader. Ideally, though, they'd like him to arrive at the Tour like last year, after doing nothing in the Giro.

The big doubt is Almeida; if he's recovered, he should be second.
Vingegaard
Almeida
Pellizzari

Looking at Decathlon, I'd include Felix Gall. It wouldn't be surprising if he's the second strongest climber, like in Catalunya, but he'll lose a lot of time on some descents.

Changed my vote from Landa to Arensman. Really want to believe he finally has it in him to keep a steady form 3 weeks long, and not choke the first week

Still quite bearish on Arensmans first week, it's more of a mental thing with him. But tbf, the route isn't bad for him. Not a lot of steep muros in the first week, the fact that there is only very long TT instead of two short ones favours him and the stage with Passo Giau is 'big engine' territory. I'd still see 3-4 guys (Pelizzari, Almeida, Carapaz) that I'd put on the podium before him, though, he's just too much of an enigma in that first week.

I made my third pick for Pellizzari.
When I made my first two picks, Carapaz hadn't undergone surgery. A quick Google search tells me nothing about him. He's not listed on the Romandie startlist per PCS

I think Arensman might get on the podium. I know he has his first week issues, but I think his 2 stages at the Tour last year might have turned the page for him, and his climbing is coming into shape at just the right time.

1. Jonas
2. Giulio
3. Gall.

Pellizzari because he seems the next young Italian hope. Winning Tour of the Alps (as Giro del Trentino) was once a key guide to Giro winning level - ask Vinzenzo Nibali.

Gall mostly in hope than expectation. I'd like to see him deliver another 2023 Tour climbing performance and he must be under pressure from Decathlon.

But I'd also love to see Egan Bernal snare a podium.

I still have doubts about Gall on the descents, but I think he'll be far superior to fourth rider on the climbs.

Landa seems far from being Tour 2024 level, and he also had a crash in Catalunya. Carapaz seems considerably weaker this year than last. Enric Mas is also weak after an injury.
I think Bernal will again struggle in third week, and Arensmann isn't a GC contender. He's better suited to winning stages.

How much time can Jonas and Almeida gain in the Long ITT?
Almeida isn't racing apparently.

I don't expect Vingegaard to crush that TT for some reason, it looks too damn flat for him. Still the field is weak so could take a minute out of his rivals.

They need to get onto the phone to Jay V$nes agent/accountant right now and offer him cash money, I’m talking a big bounty, to podium this Giro, if he can just ride round near the back for the first stages and stay out of trouble he has it in him.
