I'm being thrown off

Sometimes I have had a problem with, after writing a relatively long post, being told that you aren't online and therefore cannot post. Even if I know I was online when I started writing.

I can sorta understand that you get thrown off if you're inactive for a long period, but if you're writing something it does get a little bit annoying.

Session time limits on forums like the CN one are often kept short because they login sessions can use up a lot of server resources.

What should happen though is that, even if you get logged out when you submit your post, what you have written will remain intact and still get posted, provided that you log in again immediately when prompted. :)

I havnt had to log on for about 9 months. Just as well, i have no idea what my password is.

It is 'wise practice' to mark & copy your text so that you can paste it into a txt file for safe keeping.
Or, if you know it's going to be long, just write it in a txt file first, and then copy it to the post.

I'm assuming that the message you're getting is "You are not logged in" as opposed to actually saying "You are not online."

Make sure when you sign-in that you click the "Remember Me" box.
That should keep you from getting bumped.

I always have word processing page open, to copy back and forth, when writing a long post. ALWAYS! ;)

Ah right, you do the Remember me? thing. I mostly use this forum at work and I don't trust any of the sysadmins here. It's been known. ;)

That's because you're not allowed to be on this forum during worktime :D

all you have to do is refresh the page every few minutes while writing for long periods if you do this you dont get logged out and lose what you wrote.;)

I've been thrown off several times before, but if the very next action I take is to log back on, whatever I wrote is recovered... so I've never lost anything, but it is a bit annoying.

It has happened to me so many times...and sometimes it ate my text and never reappeared. However, I have now learned that when I finish a particularly long tirade, that it's a good idea to copy the text so I can paste back if necessary. :p

ditto...pondered the matter for a few seconds then "doesn't matter".

Occasionally I either: save text to a doc or write post in a doc then paste into post...FWIW.

ps have now read full thread...sorry for repeating parts of various posts
