The race has been cancelled.
Condolences for all those involved.

Yeah, makes sense. Families would have been worried with their riders out there for one thing. It's respectful...Such a sad moment.

Couldn't agree more, I have a couple of friends who are still on the road and I was worried so I can't imagine how the families must feel. A sad end to what has been an enjoyable event to follow, this was the best and most respectful decision.

Horrible. I dont see Tarlee or Manaro on the map, but very sadly Mike was south of Canberra at the time. Shocking whoever it is.

The race had to be cancelled - Think in future you must have minimum rest periods each day for this kind of race - There is no other way.

Let's wait to hear what happened first before calling for a change in the rules, Australian drivers don't have a good history when it comes to respectful driving when it comes to cyclists, I've had far to many close calls on the roads and have actually been hit on a couple of occasions.

This is just awful news.

Nothing much else to say I guess, other than it sounds like he led an interesting and fulfilling life, following his dreams, and doing what he really enjoyed. I'm sure his legacy will continue to inspire a lot of people.

I know full well how bad Aussie drivers are when around cyclists - Many endurance races have allocated rest times and race times

Look, I agree with you that races, including endurance races, should not be set up in such a way as to encourage cyclists to race while seriously sleep deprived. It is a bad idea. But at this point we have no way of knowing if that contributed in any way to this accident. Most cyclists who are killed on the roads, whether commuters, people training or competitors in a race are killed due to carelessness on the part of a motorist. Jumping to conclusions about the cause of this tragedy without evidence will quite understandably aggravate and upset people.
