Looks like Mike Hall has finally caught up with Kristoff. Should be an interesting second half of IndiPac.

they're still 40kms apart by my data

great interview with Sarah Hammond in Port Augusta on the FB page
https://www.facebook.com/IndianPacificWheelRace/?hc_ref=SEARCH&fref=nf

so hard for these riders to talk or think clearly after burning 20,000 calories a day

she had been up since 3am and still going at 1am the next day when she did that interview...and over 400kms on the road in 22 hours. Just amazing and she's still moving as I type this and its 3:10am local time.

Not quite sure how accurate the map data is. I was working about 100m away from the Rapha pop up in Victoria Square here in Adelaide when I checked the tracker and saw Kristoff was there so wandered over. Turns out he had left about an hour earlier. He was greeted by the Lord Mayor, stopped for some pics and interviews and continued on his way.

Mike Hall just rolled through town and stopped at Vic Square as well. Can see the (brief) interview on the IndiPac Facebook page

I saw Kristof in Vic Sq. Took some pics and video.
He looked fresh and in good spirits. Very talkative.
I just checked the map and he flew over mount lofty. He's going to be hard to beat from here with that kind of form.

Gap down another 15km's from 24 hours ago, and you'd expect Mike Hall to close up slightly on the steady descent from Mount Lofty.

Massive props to Sarah Hammond too, she has pulled along way clear of most of the pack, who seem to be toiling in the desert, she is only just over 100k's off Hall.

Mike Hall had a bad bike service in Adelaide which has cost him some time. They got his tire pressure wrong and some other issue when they swapped the chain. He didnt discover until he was on the road and has been doing his own servicing.
Sarah Hammond is reeling them both in heading down the Coorong. (I saw her last night in the main square)

I heard Mike had an issue with his Di2 and was stuck in the big ring. Not sure how accurate that is or if it was a result of the work done by the bike shop or just happened. Not a great advertisment for Treadly either way. Not sure what made him go to that shop.

amazing indipac stats: Stopped time from start (day 8) [hours]

Allegaert 5:42
Hall 8:27
Hammond 20:17
Luke 17:01
Raymakers 33:16
Hunter 2:46
Harding 23:15

Quite telling about their sleeping strategy - surprisingly Sarah Hammond is actually faster on the road than the guy behind her.

And then: Kim Raymakers - fast on the road with decent regular sleep time, followed by Adam Hunter who probably haven't slept at all!

So, if you thought Kristof (race leader) is an extreme non-sleeper, there are crazier guys out there, and for the moment the IPWR Lunatic Prize goes to... certain "Jp" clocking full 2:29 of stoptime (Juan Diaz from Chile, currently way down in standings).

I'm not sure how accurate some of those times are. The trackers are malfunctioning sometimes when they go offline and throws the stats off a bit.

I know Kristof had slept less than 7 hours up until a couple of days ago.
Sarah's strategy was to sleep less than him, I'd be surprised if she's slept 20 hours.
Kristof is fastest on the road.

I took some pics of his bike on Friday, fully loaded. He stepped off for a coffee and banana. He took nothing else of the bike. I was a little surprised he was using caliper breaks when a lot of the others in the field are using discs.

Kristoff has left Melbourne, now they'll start to hit the hills, I can't imagine how their legs must be feeling, could be a really interesting finish, what can Hall do to catch him?

Ride faster? (well duh)

Ride more, sleep less?

Not sure if you guys can see this Facebook post from James Raison. He was in the race and pulled out a few days ago. He openly admits it broke him mentally. He has a YouTube channel called Ride Adelaide if interested in hearing what he had to say. He has done numerous everestings, ridden from Melbourne to Adelaide etc.
Anyway, this FB post was about Vasiliki leaving Adelaide up Greenhill Rd. Apparently she could barely ride in a straight line, On a couple of occasions across the Nullabor got up and rode in the wrong direction (for 75km) and only realised when she crashed. Sleep deprivation and exhaustion is a very real danger for these guys.

wow, that would explain this

I wondered what was up with her.

I saw her today going over the summit of Mt Lofty. She looked strong going up there and smoked the other girl who started the climb with her.

And do not underestimate girl power of pink dot... it may end up in group sprint.

name | km (total stoptime Day 8 9 10)
Allegaert 4073 (5:42 6:23 7:33)
Hall 3965 (8:27 11:09 14:17)
Hammond 3923 (20:17 25:32 28:39)

Concerning sleeptime, I included last 3 days of total stoptime (sure, we do not know how accurate this is, but at least it is updated regularly). From this it looks like Sarah is faster on bike, guys are faster "off bike".

The interest that the IPWR is garnering is a real thumb to the eye of those like Velon who keep pushing for shorter races supposedly because of modern life and people's short attention span and wanting to shake up the format because "traditional" cycling is too boring. This is cycling how it was over a century ago but with modern technology. And people are getting hooked on watching GPS dots move in a race where time gaps are measured in hours and course time is measured in weeks.

Just saying.
