I know how you feel, been there countless of times with Poels, Kruijswijk, Gesink and Mollema crashing (out) all the time

Yes, but they're dutch so you couldn't have been surprised. This was different.

Gutted for him. I was really looking forward to see what he could do with a full team behind him. He looked to be in great shape and the course suited him.

I don't really feel like following the race anymore. I'm of course going to, because I always do, but I had really big expectations built up, and they just vanished in such a horrible blow.

And what a disgraceful tv production! They didn't even mention that Izagirre had had a crash nor abandoned so we only found out after the stage. But I guess their brilliant graphics regarding the times of the riders make up for that. Oh, wait...

It's the second ITT he has crashed out in 2017.

I read an interview with him some time ago where he complained about his TT-bike and he didn't feel comfortable on it yet. Could be a an explanation for his mediocre results in that discipline and the crashes so far.

Any word on his injuries?

Statement from the team: The first diagnosis said that Ion Izagirre has an unstable lumbar fracture and he needs a surgical treatment. We will come with further information in the next days.

God damn, there's really no good news today, is there?

I'm dreading hearing the diagnosis on Gallopin and Roglic.

Ion will be a very valuable asset for Nibali even in the mountains. Hopefully he'll have the chance to be the captain at the Vuelta.

Got to think Izagirre x 2 will be vital in the TTT - I am happy with Bahrain's strategy for the TDF.

Yeah, I hope they all stay healthy until TDF. Something like Nibs, Pozzo, Delfino, Izagirre*2, Sitsou, Navardauskas and Haussler sounds fairly strong team in all terrain of next year race.

Yes, that sounds like an awesome team.
Ion will probably get his chance to be a leader at the Vuelta.

Ion Izagirre is really going to hunt WT points this year. First Down Under, then Dubai, PN, Pais Vasco, Ardennes, Romandie, Suisse, Tour de France and Vuelta. He could easily end top-5 with that schedule.

I guess you mean Abu Dhabi? Dubai isn't WT, Abu Dhabi is.

Wauw, I had completely missed the fact that this is his debut Vuelta. In his ninth professional season. As a Spaniard.

Why not just start by winning it?
