If I had seen this thread when it was started, I probably would have closed it and there would at least have been discussion about whether sanctions for breaking the politics rule were appropriate. The vagaries of the New Posts algorithm, which I don't pretend to understand, mean that it was not flagged up, and I have only this afternoon become aware of it. It will now go on my watchlist.

Call it residual seasonal goodwill, but I leave it be. It might just be possible to discuss this without discussing/revealing/promoting one's personal political predilections, but that will probably require a lot of hypotheticals and very careful phrasing. If that does not prove possible, closure of the thread is very likely.
