What's hilarious? The fact that I am suggesting that not everything in cycling is utterly riddled with doping? Sorry, I'm a skeptic rather than a cynic. I know there is a huge problem and I'm very distrustful of a lot of people, but where there is a good suggestion that riders/reams are clean and there is no evidence to suggest otherwise, then I'll give them a chance.

Pretty much what Cervelo did with their recruitment of their team.

In an ideal world, we wouldnt have to talk about doping, only the racing. The problem is after all that has happened in the last 10 years, its hard to witness a trend in cycling and not wonder if its related to doping.

Saddly, I've reached the point that I assume that any rider who wins a race has done it by riding dirty. Seeing riders have hematocrit levels at 48-50 test after test makes it pretty tough to believe that they are riding clean. Also, the ridiculous denials (e.g., Museeuw, despite the recorded phone calls) just really anger me any more. Yep, I dearly love the sport, but it will be a long time before I can get really excited about another top rider winning a race.

While we're on the topic...

We've heard lots of talk about the 1994 Fleche Walloon in which the Gewiss-Ballan team went 1-2-3 and it marked the advent of the EPO era in pro cycling.

What I want to call some attention to is the 2005 Jacob's Creek Tour Down Under, in particular stage 5. You can re-live the stage here at Graham Watson's site, but the synopsis is that a very young Alberto Contador, riding for Manolo Saiz' Liberty Seguros team, pulled his teammate Luis Leon Sanchez free of the field on the last climb and the pair rode away from the field over the last 20 km. Allan Davis and Javier Abeja completed a 1-2-3-4 for Liberty Seguros, and as we all know it was not many months later that Saiz was busted with so many bags of blood in his car.

Discuss.

Cymbop, Fuentes had annotated doping programes for LL Sanchez (LL), Davis (AD) and Contador (AC). There was no blood of these riders stored, so no DNA match is possible, which is a very strong piece of evidence. A piece of paper with doping products and names is not enough to convict. But it stinks, why would someone right all these doping programes if the riders weren't following them?

That's why Davis was quick to offer his blood for a DNA match - he had no blood there. But the documents seized by policehave his name next to hormonal doping.

Like I've said before, only those riders who stored blood with Fuentes seem to get punishment (and even this is random, Valverde would have escaped justice if Serrano had not gone on holiday at one moment) whilst cyclists and other sportsmen who relied on EPO, CERA, IGF-1, HGH etc are probably beyond the reach of authorities.

2001 Paris-Roubaix... Domo-Farm Frites go 1-2-3-5 (Knaven, Museeuw, Vainsteins, and Peeters). We all know about Museeuw's subsequent troubles. It seems like the team doctor should have been awarded the cobblestone that day.

Cocaine is an illegal drug in society you dopes! Anyone testing positive should be sent to the local police station and arrested, just like you would be if caught with it! Whoever is not seeing the problem there is on DOPE!

Do you want the young kids idolizing a cocaine addict bike racer? Its bad with the performance (UCI) illegal drugs as it is now you want cocaine to be ok?

How about Viagra? Gotta help for the money shot as well.

And some people will be probably be aware that Peeters and Patrick Leferve apprently disowned Museeuw when he "confessed". At the time it seemed as though Leferve and Museeuw were inseperable. Peeters was Museeuw's right-hand man for 16 years and who is now DS at Quick-Step. I always thought that disowning a friend like that was a strange stance to take. I would have thought mates would stick together, you know, help each other through bad times....ho hum
