Is ones fitness a skill set?

immediate reaction "nope" - then I thought a bit more about it.
I usually think of Skillsets in terms of CVs. If someone were to submit a CV to me listing their physical fitness as a skill I would be inclined to laugh it into the bin. However - thats because I'd be looking at it from an IT management perspective.

If you looked at it from a manual labour perspective, then physical fitness is a valuable attribute.

Also if you look at it from an HR health of workforce perspective, its a great attribute that leads to less sick days and greater longevity.

But I don't know if you can call it a "skill" in the usual sense? Happy to be steered differently if I am wrong

are these terms synonymous??

Do you mean in terms of a job application or as a skillset that can be transferred to other disciplines (ie, cycling fitness = swimming fitness)?

In terms of cycling I know guys who shuttle run all day every day long travel and with insane technical bike handling skills but cant pedal up the hill to save a life. then there are people who crush the climbs who you dont want any where near your wheel on a descent. The Downhiller can get fit but some fit guys will always hack the technical

Martins remark on the job force is interesting.

I can't think that fitness itself is a Skill Set but what we do to gain that fitness usually is for regular exercisers. Riding a good line, maintaining the pace, etc are all roady skills that contribute to the fitness. Certainly regular exercise teaches your body to use it better.

I think Fitness and Skill are two different things. I see fitness as being represented by Force, and Skill being represented by Precision. One can make up a little for a lack of the other, but they are not the same thing.

I don't think that fitness could be described as a skill set but the knowledge and techniques for obtaining and maintaining fitness are.

[preamble]

I am a bit of a latecomer to cycling and over the past two years I have gone from being a once a fortnight mountainbiker to riding Gran Fondos to competing in cyclocross, to competing in crits (I'm over 40). This year I was aiming to improve 5% and maybe start getting placings in cyclocross this winter.

Unfortunately, I slipped on the ice at the beginning of Feb. and tore my quad. tendon. A whole month in plaster and I was only allowed back on the bike at the end of April.

[/preamble]

I have an entry to the Maratona dles Dolomites and I had persueded a friend - who had the same level of activity as I had 2 years ago - to enter too. Whilst he has been training since February, in the past month of being back on the bike, I have gone from not managing more than 10km, to riding him into the ground over 2hrs.

Some of this must be down to residual strength and fitness - though my injured leg is still far weaker than it was and nearly 5 months off destroyed my aerobic fitness - I would put a lot of the gains down to knowing how to train to regain fitness, a skills set.
