Is Quintana's 3rd week that impressive?

Plz add a poll Miburo, we know it's your favourite thing;)

Anyway I think Quintana is a bit overrated, including his 3rd week

This. There's been a lot of hype about him and though he's still young, the jury is still out for me as to whether he's just a pretender or a really consistent contender.

Close.

I prefer examples of riders like Lemond, Fignon and Hinault.

Hihihihihi! Wishful thinking. He's nowhere near :p. I'm not as sold on him as I was last year. I liked what he did to Froome that no one did (TdF - attack - take time), with Sky at its greatest USPS. But I hate the 3rd week peak thing. Too much Jan U in my book. If legit, he has a huge upside and he must lick his chops for the next TdF. Although the style of climbs seem more like Pinot-Bardet playground.

Can this post make it through the mods? I hope I stayed in bounds. Morale of the story: there's still a cloud of uncertainty about Nairo's ability/level, a bit like Berzin, for example: his Giro win didn't get him the props you would expect. Hype, yes. Props, nope...

If they can all make July the verdict and stay on their bikes we'll know. And to me, he's 4th. 3rd? Maybe.

Don't worry your post will make it. Nairo is nowhere near the riders mentioned by Jens Attack.

I didn't mean that he will be like them. But to show the early talent that they did. I hope that he will but that is wishful thinking as of today.

And he does. But the 2015 TdF, if that's what the stage is going to be, and it was designed this way, is full of traps for Quintana to establish himself for good.

1. Contador won't want to be 3rd, after winning the Giro. So he may be sick before the Giro, or during the Giro. For him to cement his legacy, in spite of the suspension/controversy, he needs to beat all of them. He'll be loaded and ready.

2. One French guy (Pinot, Bardet, Barguil) will take a gamble, catch a breakaway, defend 2 minutes and a podium. Unless Valverde does the big guys a favor and chase them.

3. Valverde, Quintana's team mate, the friend to keep closest. Piti's best opportunity. Great route for him. If he's in the team, adios Nairo.

4. Froome and the USPS train. Question mark.

5. Nibali will be prepared, as he was in '14. Before Dawg and Bertie retired, he had built a nice lead. Then he flew, maybe not as fast as he coudda, not to look mutant.

6. Tommy Voekler and Pierre Rolland will come back from a knee injury and destroy the field :D

7. Vino will un-retire.

I had to finish on a light note. Too much bickering on CN forum. We can disagree, why make it a big deal?

Is this a joke thread? Quintana has put out over 6 wpk, in the the third week of a grand tour, on more than one occasion. He climbed the Alpe in 39.45! He most likely could have done more in the third week of the giro, but why risk blowing up when you only need to follow wheels?

Quintana would not have made such a huge a gap, had he not attacked on the descent. FACT.
Oh no, this all over again?

Quintana has walked the talk as far as I'm concerned on the 3rd week.

You never disappoint. Well done, son. By the way has Ryo got beaten up badly in MMA that he can't post anymore? This thread screams out for him.

Your post is full of mistakes.Thats not good as its OP.
1st bolded: We have 3 GT's thats enough, and with the same result.Always a lot better in 3rd week.

2nd: duhh, you serious? , he was on a domestique duty, and was 4th best in final week (better than tour-vuelta Froome, fresh Moreno etc) despite playing a dom for Piti.

3rd: thats the biggest lie of your post. Purito was dropped 2 times in 2 hardest stages, so how he was at his level?
I won't react on Froome 'hungerknock', its ridiculous

4th Clearly yes.

5th Nobody could claim this, its a bs, depends on the race, fitness etc. Of course he will be better at Tour than AC, but because he will be fresh.

Where was he dropped? That 3 seconds difference on Alpe d'Huez? Or those 17 seconds on Semnoz, where Purito rode the whole climb on the front.

There were at the same level in the Alps. Even as a Quintana fan you have to admit;)

No I dont ;), he was dropped, doesnt matter by how many seconds.

LOL. He won a Giro already, or are we just talking about July?

I know he won the Giro. But I'm still not convinced he's a consistent contender as opposed to a one GT winner. IT isn't 'just' about July at all. It's just he's not yet living up to all the talk IMO.

Ten years from now, I would not be surprised if it turns out all the talk never came to fruition. That's all. I hope for his sake, that's not how it turns out. But, as I say the jury is still out for me, Giro or no Giro.

But concerning the circumstances, there were on par in the Alps.

And if you count the TT to Chorges as part of the Alps, Purito is by far the winner:D:p

That year Rodriguez had an aggressive approach to achieve the podium. He could easily have stayed on the defensive and then finish off Quintana inside the last km.
