Is UAE Over the Top?

Some random reflections has popped up in my mind;

"If Matxin was a groomer everything makes sense to me"

That and similar phrases has popped up in my mind the last year or two.

(It doesn't mean that I'm saying that he is. I'm not. It's just that the way Matxin acts around Ayuso seems very similar to his people act when they have a crush. And I just hope it happened later on.

At any ratethe dynamic is just weird.)

I'm also thinking; if the team doesn't like Ayuso he won't get the best resources for training which also might mean less optimal peds. It doesn't even have to be on purpose; people just don't give their best to people they don't like.

I look forward to this thread morphing a bit.. Alibaba is building a huge new place in Liege ...going to be lots of ugly involved and sponsorship for a cycling team should be a no brainer..If Belgians are angry sponsoring a team might calm them down!
UAE taking lots of heat for doing bike racing right!! Hope someone else can get some

You mean like by doping and having a vampire run the team?

I don't understand how that would make anything better in any respect.

Bravo Juan Aysuo for a career GTFO choice with regards UAE.

It blows my mind when I see the bullying that rider receives from hardcore Pogi fans and others simply because he isn't a "team player" in the most corrupt obviously-juiced team in the sport. It's like we've learned nothing (something something similar to how Tyler Hamilton and Floyd Landis bailed on Postal back in the day).

Bullying? Professional sportspeople should not be concerned with what fans say.

Doping aside, are we saying Ayuso was deserving of equal treatment at UAE as Pogacar? His entitled attitude is why Ayuso wasn't popular with some Pogi fans. Just compare Ayuso with Almeida a rider with similar ability IMO. But I think this quote by Mayo is pertinent:

So does he take San Millan and knowledge about the UAE program with him? A decent amount of teams would probably be interested in that.

Perhaps UAE's reluctance to let Ayuso go was more about him/ISM knowing where some of the bodies were buried, because they aren't exactly short on talent, and he just isn't worth it given the trouble he's causing.

Say what you want about him not being good for Pogacar, Jan Christen is also his guy and he looks absolutely lethal.

Brailsfraud might be a little short on knowledge and looking for some new contacts given the trouble he's been having recently, Trek don't really need it, their riders seem to be flying at the moment.

Trek has top fuel already with their broccoli and fish extracts, which makes all their team super caliber racers

As I said, it's similar to the Tyler Hamilton and Floyd Landis situations and yes, there's bullying online by Pogi diehards. It's pointless denying it, i.e. mou and his contingent of likeminded zealots marked Ayuso as a 'traitor' in the TdF last year and that sealed the deal.

They'd have us believe Ayuso is some sort of bad guy because he fell out with his cycling teamates. I mean hell, following such wonderful logic there's hardly a redeemable footballer on the planet because most have been in the same situation. Aka just because UAE and Pog fans think something negative about a rider, it doesn't make it the default accepted truth.

Also, as neutral bystanders this split is interesting for the sport, i.e. we get to gauge a UAE rider outside of their bubble. FYI obviously Juan Ayuso is on a program and tbh that's pretty much where the friction comes from (aka like those aforementioned Landis & Hamilton situations): when the 'boss' is winning with a needle in his arm then 'respect' is harder to come by. That's one of the particularities of cycling that top riders have struggled with for decades.

I worry for any team that will sign Ayuso. He already proved he's not a team player and only cares about himself. We will see what he does until the end of Vuelta. I doubt he's gonna work for Almeida. As for why he stayed at UAE, it's simple. It's Maxtin. He got him, he vouched for him, he was the one who told him he's as good as Pog. When in reality he's currently at best the 4th rider there. Behind Pog, Almeida and the Bull. If he was so good he would be winning your Giros, your Vueltas by a large margin and yet he has exactly 0 wins. I won't be surprised if he turns into Mas and statpads his career in Vuelta and other spanish races. I'm glad he's gone. He didn't belong there and you could tell other riders also didn't want thim there. Good bit of business for both. Maybe he can join the new Hincapie team in a few years...

It's funny you mention Hincapie because as someone looking at all of this from a simple neutral stance, IMO the entire narrative surrounding Ayuso (which you lean into here with this post) is entirely the oeuvre of UAE, Almeida and Pog fans spinning this one to the point Ayuso's role as a villain is a fait accompli.

Hincapie in this case is an interesting case study because he's a man who gained 'respect'... by devoting himself to Lance body and soul. To this day. Was he right? Wrong? It's entirely subjective. Landis and Hamilton meanwhile had a different route but the same outcome. Point being? i.e. I find the vilification of Ayuso absurd when we're talking about a cycling team run by Gianetti. There's no honor among thieves. They're all the same.

As for what other UAE riders 'want'... lol, when the likes of Jan Christen get scolded by teammates for being selfish whilst almost everyone else on that team rides for himself (https://cyclinguptodate.com/cycling...n-christens-surprise-attack-at-tour-de-suisse) I'm pretty sure it's going to be business as usual.

It dates back at least to the 2022 Catalunya. Non-UAE fans have had this opinion about him for a long time.
