If I was being ultra cynical, I could be persuaded that UAE deliberately threw that race. Seems ludicrous but think about it. There would be good reasons for them to do so. Especially given the way the season as gone to date, and with a TDF coming up where Wonder Boy Golden Balls is going to win it by about twenty minutes. As such, we’re surely close to reaching the point where other teams and their sponsors won’t tolerate being taken for mugs any longer, frustrated as they must be that the sport is no longer competitive and knowing full well that it’s a crock of ***. Given all that, it would be in UAE’s interest to judiciously throw the odd scrap from the table to keep the natives quiet.

He said multiple anti internet things.. All his interviews usually included, I am new, this is all new , I need to learn.. and fast..I am suddenly in the company of my idols, he said I have made many bad,dumb decisions.

Wait, did he really say this? Because it was my takeaway after watching stage 20 - I spent ages trying to work out what del Toro had been doing and why he kept wheel sucking Carapaz long after it was clear he needed to ride, and ultimately concluded that maybe he just isn't very smart .

Yes he said this multiple times. The context was..I am not experienced at being the team leader of UAE..the context was, I don't know tactics for leading a grand tour..I have not done it before. This is all a new experience I need to learn fast. Del Toro is intelligent both personally and on the bike. Carapaz situation is an excellent example.. Del Toro had pink jersey, Del Toro had white jersey, Carapaz and Del Toro each won a stage, and late in the race, Del Toro beat Carapaz, ten year professional, grand tour winner, on both final climbing stages, ironically, Del Toro beat Carapaz using identical strategy, Del Toro ultimately beat Carapaz for second, he was excellent against Yates, except for final day,
