I guess with the recent rulings, it became untenable as a secondary punishment.

I did like the sly comment about selction still being in the hand of the selectors. Justbecause these guys are 'available' doesn't mean they get selected.

Bettini will insist on the selection most likely to win and he's not a hard liner.
If Petacchi is off form he'll be out any way.

Is there a rule that the associations must select on sporting grounds alone? Never understood why they can't just have a recommended policy of not selecting drugs cheats so as to maintain the image of the federation.

Would that be seen as non compliant with the WADA code (unless it was done unofficially)? .

Probably.

Thats why it would have to be unwritten, and my interpretation of the Italian Federation is that the policy will remain, just as an unwritten one.
