I don't get why Pogacar didn't attack on the ascent to bridge up to the break.
Well, the race would still be in control for them if not for the descent attack and letting Roglic go there surely wasn't part of the plan. If the peloton had stayed I think the next climb would have been a much better place to attack for Pogacar.

The odds of Pogacar dropping Roglic after having to bridge back up first are possibly even worse than hoping McNulty gets back on though.
He overcame worse odds in the past.
I don't think it's likely, but in desperate situations you go to your superstar.

BTW Bora completely disappeared.

The best thing to do is probably using Hirschi to keep the gap stable on the flat and then you burn him on the next climb before trying to jump with both Pogi and McNulty. The problem is that Vineyard gets a free ride and if you manage to close the gap he'll attack.
Best Jumbo tactics since the longe range attack on the last Alpe d'Huez stage?

Nothing wrong with helping and doing a favour to a teammate, but Pogačar should've been freed to ride for himself.
Maybe could've followed the downhill speeding.

I think the element of chance entered into this race today. Roglic saw the opportunity to tag onto that Astana-led small group on that descent, and that rearranged the whole race.
