Jarring sound at the back

Hope it's the right forum to ask this question.

I have an old bike, I have a relatively new back wheel. When I don't ride for a while, then everything is okay, but after a few days a jarring (hope it's the correct word) sound comes from the back and it gets louder and louder. It seems that this sound comes after every rotation, so when I ride slower or just push the bike then there are breaks, but when I go faster it's almost continuous.

This is not a new thing, it started 1 or 2 years ago, but I never used the bike so often, so it wasn't too much a problem, but now I ride it every day, because I go to work with it so now it's really annoying. I was listening to it and I think two things can be the problem, but I'm not sure which one and as I'm not really good repairing bike I have to ask. There is metal spoke protector and when I try to move it a bit, then I hear this sound, but it's impossible to hear that it's the spoke protector which gives this sound or the spokes.
As I wrote the wheel is relatively new so I guess it's more likely that the spoke protector is the problem, it's also metal and seems old to me, but maybe there is someone who is more experienced and can say something.

Thanks in advance!

That's the problem, it's a metal one, so it's impossible to break it. Need I remove the disks before to remove it? If yes I think it's not going to work, because they're Shimano's, and as I know I need for it some special tools.

Or just simply I will take the bike back to them and ask for a change to a plastic one.

I will need to learn how to repair my bike... :D

Well that's why they invented a dremel tool, a nibbler also can do the task but will take some time. A dremel you can probably borrow more readily.

Surely it would be easier to just borrow a cassette tool and chain whip? Take the wheel back to the bike shop and they should fix it for you for little cost.

Thanks, but I think as dsut4392 wrote I will just bring it back. I hope, that the protector is the problem a wheel just cost too much.

I have a feeling the dremel will be more easily obtained/borrowed by the OP than the correct cassette tool and chain whip. I'm also being considerate to him as I foresee him spending too long at a bike shop where some mech. talks his ears off on the history of the spoke protector. :D

? Trying to be funny it's not your terrain I see. Actually the spoke protector was the problem. If you can't write a constructive post, then why do you do it here?

Hey, I was trying to have you remove that contraption at all costs, well least cost but least time frame based on the info you gave us. Had you been in my neighborhood I'd of had the right tool to get it off in a couple minutes, not that I haven't done that before saving the human race a few bucks and who knows how much time at a bike shop for a few minute task. Next time I'll send you to get in line at their predetermined time at the bike shop.
