This is not a campaign.

This is seriously meant. After talking to my friend years back (when his department proposed the first tests for HGH), this year I just noticed that m a n y riders have strange looking, pointed faces. In my view more than ever. Thus I wonder: Is this the effect of HGH as my friend suggests. If peoples skulls (and foot sizes) grow over time, it could support the suspicion.

Therefore, if anybody has good pictures in profile of a rider some years ago an now, it could be interesting to see them.

Obviously, this is NOT an invitation to manipulate photos!

A certain 25-year-old Manx sprinter was struggling with some dental issues earlier this season.

Entirely unrelated: http://www.ktradionetwork.com/health/study-shows-hgh-boosts-sprint-speed/

That swim time in the article is sick.

3.9% would have taken me from barely making the junior national cut as a 17 year old to qualifying for the olympic trials. 50's are about tenths if not hundreths of a second... getting nearly a second improvement is insane.

Luis Leon Sanchez has a hell of a chin. I've never seen pics of him as a youngster though.

Let's forget about the drug angle and get to the really important stuff:

I don't know whether facial features would be the thing to look at. What I think might be more evident is the growth of the HGH gut. It is thought that HGH abuse (in particular when taken with insulin and IGF-1) leads to growth of internal organs such as heart, liver etc. So, even with very low % body fat you'd have a visible HGH gut.

Yeah, I saw the picture of granddad Armstrongs abdomen from when he rode with his shirt open. His abdomen looked as wrinkled and strange as Hincapies legs, and bulky too.

You are probably right. Or dentist X-rays. Both unobtainable. Of course.

Perhaps this thread should be terminated now, before it turnes into a real horror cabinet. I think I saw Predator sneak his way in.

Both total badasses. But, if you want to go the pop culture route, LL obviously stands for Ladies Love. So, get used to it: Ladies Love Sanchez.

Totally.

Surely, there's someone out there who can photoshop a sweet box fade on LL Sanchez? That would rule.

i get the impression interest has dwindled from this thread...
however, if anyone is still interested, here's a nice example of acromegaly (gh excess due to excretory pituitary tumour):
4799041211_13b8145ffe.jpg

It may also be good to note that gh secretion is increased by such things as:
low glucose levels
fasting/prolonged caloric deprevation
exercise
stress
sleep
androgens
(etc etc)

...all of which are a large part of a cyclists life. So, one would imagine all endurance athletes would have increased gh levels over the normal population, which over (a long) time could account for subtle changes in jaw structure etc. I.e. a 20-years-later photo of a pro cyclist may well have a more acromegaly-esque face just from natural gh.

That said, there is definitely a "look" of cyclists in the 90's. Back in the day, the old boys just looked like blokes (albeit scrawny, tired ones) - how about Anquetil:

Then there were guys in the 90's:

And now i think guys look more normal again. Hmmm. Who knows?

I'm surprised no one has posted some good pics of Bjarne Riis! If I were to place a bet on a cyclist suspected of using HGH I'd say he is a pretty certain bet, wouldn't ya'll?

oh wait that pic above me IS bjarne isn't it??? dear god man!

No way, Yo, I just came up wit dis!

I've always been amazed at the similarities between LL Sanchez and the Ice Man. And really, the whole concept of this thread is so silly that I consider this to be by far the most relevant post on the subject!

Got a problem? Yo, I'll solve it...
