Jay Vine - The Next Sella?

We don't.....He's come from a different background, and it is still unknown how good he might be.....
That's only partially true, he did race a decent amount of domestic races over 4 seasons before joinin Alpecin in 2021 as a result of winning the 2020 Zwift academy, so it's not like he just won that e-cycling event with no previous road experience and was a a pure diamond in the rough.

Considering the finances required to to a world class doping and anti-doping avoidance system (DAADAS), whatever he did is most likely not perfect, mostly likely commonly available products like EPO and therefore increases the chances of getting caught like Santambrogio. This may be a one off for contract purposes.

I follow him on Strava and tbf he already had nice wattages in training in the first week he came into Europe in 2021. Taking KOMs around Girona in long climbs with lots of previous attemps of fellow pros like Yates and doing close to 6w/kg.

This year the performances who have been measured were all above that threshold. Talking about Etoile de Besseges and Norway. Don't know what were the wattages in Malhão and Turkey and didn't had a chance to show his level both in Paris-Nice and Tour de Suisse, where DNFd before the mountains with illness.

But yes, I'm not going to believe with 100% in cleanliness and wouldn't be shocked if it turns out into something like Sella.

New climbing sensation but definitely very questionable given the background. Never looked in any pain, just churning out the watts effortlessly.
...whic his exactly what you would expect from somebody who did Zwift. Which is all about churning watts.

He had to learn a lot in road cycling, surfing the peloton without losing energy is the main issue of Zwift watt monsters. That's what makes the difference between a road cyclist and a simple watt monster.

The guy already rode on the domestic Aussie scene in 2017 and did for 4 seasons until he joined Alpecin, he did't just start riding in the bunch after winning that Zwift thing.

When he caught Padun on stage 6, it was like a passing of the torch.

His first win was idiotic in true Padun fashion (going faster than all the GC guys on the last climb). Today he lost about 45 seconds to the top GC guys, I suspect some soft pedalling to try and retain some shred of credibility.

Alas, when a commentator says Vine has "repeated the miracle" in winning his second stage it pretty much says it all in cycling terms. Very disappointing to see him showing far more energy and recovery than much higher paid GC riders on top teams who are clearly in decent form.
