Got some info yesterday, there is likely to be a surprise selection in the Jayco Alula TDF squad. Not that I was aware that Bling Matthews is off the bike indefinitely with a pulmonary embolism. I suspect Plapp will join the squad.

Not 100% sure, but I think Plapp headed back to Australia after the Giro?!

I still think we're sort a climber in the team. Right now it's Dunbar as the lone support for BOC. Maybe Zana backs up? Or perhaps Hatherly as a very left field option?

They do not need another climber in the team because all O'Connor needs to do is follow. In saying that, Plapp is at altitude and will ride the TDF. The likely team is O'Connor, Dunbar, Plapp, Schmid, Groenewegen, Mezgec, Durbridge . Last spot from Reinders or Foldager. I would leave Durbridge out and include Foldager and Reinders. jayco has no reason to ride at the front, so Durbridge is not needed. They have O'Connor to ride GC, Groenewegen for the sprints, Schmid and Plapp to stage hunt.

What did Chris Juul do wrong to not even be considered this year after six consecutive participations?

He is on the PCS list for the TDF. I'd take Juul-Jensen before Durbridge, however, I am not convinced this style of rider is needed at the TDF.

Please no Reinders, the guy is a continental rider at max. Choose Walscheid so if Groenewegen gets lost again he could sprint top 5.

I think it'll end up being:

O'Connor
Dunbar
Groenewegen
Juul-Jensen
Mezgec
Plapp
Reinders
Schmid

It'll be interesting to see where Schmid is in the lead out train. I think he's well suited to being between Reinders and Mezgec.

Also keen to see how we construct our Vuelta team. With Bling having heart issues I wonder if Donaldson gets a chance to be our main sprinter.

Plapp has denied he is going to the TDF, even though he's been at altitude for the last 12 days. For the Vuelta, Walscheid is the obvious choice to be the sprinter.

Walscheid was around for the German championship coverage today. He said that his injury will take six weeks to fully heal

It will be interesting to see what Jayco do with him for the rest of the year. Will it be one day races or the Vuelta? If he stays which I think he will, then he may be the only sprinter on the team.

Going Reinders over CJJ is pretty silly tbh. You're basically appeasing DG who will be gone next year and Reinders with him. CJJ a better rider.

Reinders was always going because of the injuries to Walscheid and Matthews. His selection is a no-brainer because he is part of the sprint train and he has the skill to protect O'Connor and Groenewegen in the first ten days. My understanding is that Reinders is staying with the team.
