Also this quite by Porte in 2011 convinced me he doesn't/didn't want to go to GE :

"I've sat down and listened to GreenEdge's pitch, and while it would be nice as an Australian to be racing for the team and alongside a very good mate in Stuey (O'Grady), I'm leaning towards joining Cadel (Evans) at BMC Racing or moving across to Team Sky next year."

Interesting to see how well the Madison pair of Howard and Meyer went in Stage 1 at California. On limited road preps they did an excellent job and wonder how much the broken rim affected Howard in the sprint

I don't think Howard will get a TdF start but he has to be the first back up for Lancaster if anything happens to him. Great to see Weening in the GE lead out train :D

Another win for the team with Kroupis getting his first for GE. Great to see the versatility he showed whilst leading out Cooke. Really keen to see how Clarke and Cooke go for the remainder of the race, as well as how well Langeveld improves.

Hoping to see Meyer and Weening stay with the climbers in California tomorrow...even wondering if the young rider jersey on Durbridge can be enough incentive for him to have the climb of his life. We could top that off with Howard leading out McEwan for a win in his last ever stage.

In Italy it will be an interesting week to see how the GE hierarchy attack. With Gossy gone they will surely give all the boys free rein to fight for themselves and Impey could have a go at the final sprint.

If you can go over 60kmh for 3.5km you should be able to hold a leadout, it's experience not so much legs which is lacking. Kennaugh and Sky more generally just haven't got it working to perfection yet. It didn't matter, as GreenEdge were not fast enough to make a difference. In fact nine times out of ten it will not make a difference because Cav is so good, I think we just have to accept that Sky aren't Highroad 2.0.

re: GreenEdge, Lancaster pulls out the same day as Goss, looks like he's in the box seat for a Tour berth.

Its disrespectfull for riders to pull out before the mountains.

Good looking team.

Considering 95% chances that the race will be decided in TT it's not. But of course it can end in breakaway stealing a win and Albasini is perfect for that. Nice to see Langeveld racing again and Bewley making his debut.

I didn't even look at the stages....but I now see the TT on Stage 4. Not sure who would be the strongest TT'er in this team but I think they will be looking more at grabbing a stage win or two. As you say Albasini may try and get away, plus Davis and Cooke get over the hills pretty well for any sprint finishes.

It is great to see Langeveld back after his re-entry through Tour of Norway and we haven't seen Albasini or Mouris for a fair time period now.

I tried to scroll back and pick up the early predictions for the TdF team (was it Ferminal who entered them?) as it is getting very interesting now. If you consider that Goss and Lancaster have two spots in the team, that will leave 7 positions. Will they take a specialist time trialler like Durbridge?

Impey....great form and worked well with Lancaster (has stayed in the Giro though)
O'Grady...would think he is a sure thing
Gerrans...ditto
Albasini....great spring form
Langeveld..recovered from injury?
Davis....experienced and also in great spring form. Can get over the medium hills well
Clarke...racing very consistently

Leaves out Weening, Meyer (best two in the mountains), Tuft (TT and lead out), Vaitkus, Cooke
Would this provide the best possible lead out for Goss? How well will the TdF suit Gerrans? No-one in that team to race out TT's, maybe Durbridge for Clarke or Langeveld?

Albasini could definitely go well at BR.

I think the line up will be.

Meyer ( their new GC hope- ex Aus ITT champ/ TDU winner- poster boy of their young ranks ).
Goss
Gerrans
Lancaster ( to replace Dean/ has done a good Giro )
Langveld
Weening
Tuft
O'Grady
Albasini

I think Tuft should go, he has been instrumental in their sprint/ TTT victories.
O'Grady will be a good road captain.
Albasini deserves to go he has been excellent. Him and Gerrans can hunt for stages ( namely stage 1 ).
The 2 dutch riders have to go- they are 2 of their best riders.

I did not want to leave out Clarke, Davis or Vaitkus but Clarke should focus on the Vuelta/ WC, Davis could go to Poland and Vaitkus has done a lot of work. Durbridge could also be considered and Impey should as well.

With Impey staying in the Giro I don't think we will see him at the Tour. I think Davis will do Poland (good race for him) and build into the Vuelta and autumn classics. Clarke is definitely doing the Vuelta. Weening should realistically go, as their best "climber" he would provide them with some minor representation on the heavier days. If Meyer gets through Suisse at the same level and isn't worn out I would expect him to be in the team also.
