Jeannie Longo

In the interests of gender equality ;)

Jeannie Longo, 5th in Worlds TT at age 51.9 (52 in one month). The stench coming from her is as bad as that from Armstrong. La performance d'un extraterrestre.

What can one say, a fabulous result once again from an extraordinarily talented athlete and a highly dedicated individual.

The gender part is probably relevant though, rather than suspecting a massive doping program there are other possible conclusions.

Well its not like shes had a sudden jump in performance. Always consistant & what a remarkable career. Maybe the good do exist in cycling after all. A good example to look up at.
I cant imagine anyone using PED's for that length of time, surely after a while you would just go "You know what f!!! this, im gonna do something else". I believe shes well educated also in the sports field.
Fair play to her.

Up to the age of about 30 she was the best of her generation...

Post 30? well im amazed after doping that long she hasnt turned into a man. On EPO and protected by the french, the damage it would do to the sport their if she failed a test would make armstrong look like a small grenade going off.

Completely agree both pre- and post-30.

Anyway, there is something bubbling away, as intimated by Matt Rendell on a few occasions. Whether it sees the light of day or not, who knows.

I don't care if she uses PEDs (pretty sure all her competitors juice too) I think she is an amazing athlete and one of the greatest cyclists ever.

BTW, I remember a few seasons ago, that she and her husband took some young talented female cyclist under their wing but then her husband took the young cyclist under the sheets. Or something like that??

I guess she is single now?? Maybe one of you cyclists enthusiast should step up if the position is still available :D

Trace..back when TP wasn't even a one eyed zygot yet

""Jeannie Longo of France, who holds more than 10 world records in cycling, had never tested positive in drug tests in nine years of competition until traces of ephedrine were found in her system after she won a 3-kilometer race in September at Colorado Springs. ''I'm the most sane athlete about drugs, amphetamines,'' she said yesterday in Grenoble, France, after the drug report from the American Cycling Federation was received by the French Cycling Federation and made public. ''I have never wanted to touch forbidden products,'' Longo said. ''I will not accept a suspension because a suspension for me is a condemnation.'' Longo said that the source of the minute quantities of ephedrine came from taking exosuline as part of her program of phytotherapy, an herbal medicine treatment popular in France. She faces a possible suspension of up to six months, which might threaten her chances of winning a berth on the French Olympic team."" --1987 nyt

I'm sure Edwige Pitel will be glad to hear that at age 42 or so you consider her as a spring chicken.

There were some rumors that Jeannie didn't particularly appreciate it when Patrice Ciprelli became her foremost TT French opponent trainer, but announcements of the death of their marriage (Longo-Ciprelli) seems premature.

She was poised to grab the road title at the Los Angeles olympics when Connie Carpenter accidentally destroyed her derailleur just before the start of the 6 women final sprint.

What puerile garbage. What's the average age here? Twelve and a half?

And I learned a new word today. Thank you.

Welcome to cycling forums anywhere. It's where one can check the brain at the door, take a break from the seriousness of "real life" and be silly. Sometimes it goes overboard.

Btw, Rain is the name of my dog. :)

Thirty-some years out in the elements will do that to a person!

Longo inspired me a great deal when I was a kid, still does. I can only hope she's raced clean all these years. But...back in the 80's the pro1-2 women didn't sport facial hair and acne because they trained hard...

Whoops back on topic.

What garbage! How does the size/quality of her palmares have any bearing on whether she does/did use PEDs?

That's like saying just cos I won 7 TDF I must be clean!
