let's hope they trade blows and purito hangs on today and especially tomorrow. it could go both ways, really, but if purito gets it right these two days, maybe he can pull it off.

i am glad Purito is leading the vuelta, but his performances are more and more looking "otherworldly."

Respect for JRO, very good loser.

And I'll make sure I'm the first to say it: he's gonna pull a Landis on Saturday. Just watch.

Would that be attacking with 1500 meters to go instead of 900?

Sad day for Purito. :(

Reading between the lines he admitted they were not paying attention when Contador attacked. "Nobody was expecting this."

"Alberto won with 2 cojones"

"La etapa de Fuente Dé creo que quedará para la historia y a mí el orgullo de formar parte de ella"

They should have expected it, though, considering Contador had teammates up the road. Not to mention a de facto super dom in Tiralongo.

The Great irony is that Rodriguez was the one who suffered from the Contador Tiralongo alliance in the first place. as he was the 2nd on the road going for the stage win when Contador flew out, reached Tiralongo and paced him up to the finish.

A few interesting insights. Breschel commenting on yesterdays stage (google translated):

"Rodriguez was making mistakes again and again, was not paying attention and played arrogant, and you just can not get away with in such a race here," said Breschel in a quick comment after Wednesday's stage of the Vuelta and acclaimed turn Alberto Contador of his early attacks and stunning solo ride.

"Lets just say, that Contador has class. He reads the race well and takes every chance. I think everyone were quite impressed with Contador."

And a comment by Berti which is quite different:

I even had the opportunity to talk with Joaquim (Rodriguez) and Alejandro (Valverde) in the field. They drove both really good tactical yesterday.

Valverdy, yes, Purito definately not. But he has ridden really smart apart from yesterday

Rodriguez-
"Podium, four stage wins, we're about to win 2 jerseys, we won in Bola del Mundo: we did a great Vuelta".

"I'm happy of my shape today, unfortunately I didn't manage to take the second place in GC"

"If I think the strongest won the GC? Yes I do, classifications never lie".
