Teams & Riders Jonas Vingegaard thread: Love in Iberia

I have a feeling Vingegaard is done for the season actually and by that i mean no vuelta. Have no sources just have a terrible feeling that its worse than we think, I hope im wrong. Prayers up for the lad.
Initially him lying at the roadside nearly motionless looked very worrying.

It only got overshadowed because Vine looked even more horrific. That seems to have been not as bad as feared.

Medical stuff instantly surrounded Vingegaard as well.

I still don't want to take part in the guesswork about Jonas' future in neither long - nor short terms.

Still just have to deal with facts.

Quite soon after his crash we got the news of a pneumothorax in addition to a broken sternum, collarbone and ribs.

A pneumothorax may be possible for a sub 40yo to fully recover from, but can also be more complicated.

Just like we know the difference between a simple break and a complicated break.

In any case, this requires maximum rest so soon after, and for me it is obviously logical that nothing be announced about guesswork, as everything is of course still very uncertain at yet such early stages of recovery.

Too early to state whether he'll be ready for Le Tour just in time or if this was a defining crash for his career, just like in Froome's and Ala's cases, or something in between.

It's been mentioned many times before and you can look it up yourself, but the lazy ones would obviously rather whine for more salt on their popcorn while they wait for the king?

Kind of silly, isn't it?

Very good post and I agree 100%. All that matters now is he needs to be given all the time he needs so everything can be done right, not pressured into situation which will harm him. (which someone argue jumbo did too roglic, i have no merrits of knowing any of this so might not be the case at all)

I just know theyve gotten a new sponsor and since im in corporate myself i know they dont always seem eye to eye with whats necessarily the best in all cases and have their own objective. Purely speculative and nonsense 99% most likely in this case.

This is the part i hope sincerely above all hope will not be the case. It would suck so hard for everyone who loves cycling imo.

I don’t know how it is elsewhere but in the USA if Vingegaard didn’t want his parents to know his health and status they’d never find out. I would assume other countries have HIPAA laws and regulations. That doesn’t make it any better but if those are his wishes that’s what he wants.
I understand that the hospital itself is bound to keep patient's status a secret - that's probably a thing in pretty much all developed world. What I was talking about is keeping those close to him in the loop by those who are aware of his status. It's also understandable to a degree that his wife/team wouldn't disclose his status to his parents if there was some sort of feud between them. But if that was the case, I doubt the father would go public complaining he doesn't know what's going on. He would probably acknowledge their relationship is at a point where he doesn't get updated with his son's health condition.

And as far as I know, his parents travel around France to support their son during TdF. I don't know - perhaps being a parent makes it impossible for me to objectively asses the situation, but it just doesn't seem right to me...

He's not able to fly with a punctured lung...that's probably keeping him in the hospital longer than normal. When my wife fell on vacation and ended up with a broken collarbone and punctured lung, I had to cancel the flight home and rent a car for a long, uncomfortable drive home. Maybe he's not comfortable enough for a long drive.

After undergoing surgery earlier this week, Vingegaard has now been offered the opportunity to be flown home to Denmark on a medical plane. "We are in the process of initiating the next step in the process," states the Spanish media, which also reveals that both Vingegaard, his team and family have received this offer.

Although Vingegaard is Danish, he and his family have decided to settle in Switzerland, so it is still unclear whether he will accept the offer to be flown to Denmark or prefer to be flown to Switzerland.

Now getting the opportunity for treatment in Denmark

Settlement in Switzerland creates uncertainty about where the treatment must take place

Nothing new, they are telling the same AS said some days ago.
