I know Jonas is a family man and all, but I thought his job was to win bike races for Visma. If he doesn't do the Vuelta, then theres basically nothing else to do the rest of the season for him? Maybe Worlds and Lombardia, but c'mon, thats usually not really his cup of tea.

What would have happened if Trine was expecting during the Tour?
The guy is a robot. No way they inseminate her within a three month window of the tour

Why should he not be allowed to go on paternity leave like all other fathers with a new-born?

Jonas has not given up. In an interview on the rest day, he said he’s not here for second place. He has faith.

Because contract renewals are performance reliant? They aren’t really employees as much as they are products
Yeah I'm sure doing a month of paternity leave means no one wants to sign the guy that is about to be top 2 in 4 consecutive Tours.

Jonas is from Denmark. Paternity leave is required by law here. And the team probably doesn't want to piss off their biggest star by preventing him from present at the birth of his child.

Who said the team would prevent him from taking leave? That was not the point at all.

Vingo himself says, "I did the best ride of my life" on Stage 15, he explains that he did not come here to finish 2nd and people on here are still like "yeah but he's not at his best". People just say anything on here.

Pog's best has been better than Vingo's best...so far. But that can change in the 3rd week. Vingo has historically been strongest then.

Sorry Moose; last year's history included a damaged Tadej taking on a full strength Jonas and Visma. That situation is pretty much reversed. Vingo's Giro was pretty much a training Tour where the opposition conceded they were racing for lesser places and let him do whatever. Jonas has been returning from injury Purgatory with almost no rest so his 3rd week history will be written in this Tour under those circumstances, IMO. Next year can be better for him if he doesn't accomplish what he hopes.

Wish all of you who live in proper countries would stop rubbing it in, ffs.
I'm from the US, but worked for a Danish company for 3 years (Worked in their US branch but got trips to DK to work with free lodging near Nyhavn in Copenhagen). Let me tell you, I was very ready to switch citizenship after that; phenomenal country and love the Danish people. Still have some fantastic friends there.

Jonas: "I did the best ride of my life."
CN Poster: "Nah, you were injured, definitely not in top shape."

Whom do I believe?

Jonas supposedly also did his then best ever numbers on Puy do Dôme last year, but it wasn't enough either, though he was obviously a lot, lot closer to Pogačar that day (different sort of stage, of course). Due to the uncertainty regarding the impact of the crash on his body and preparation, I don't think it's outrageous to speculate he could have been even stronger, if everything had gone according to plan. Whether that would have been good enough to win yesterday, is a different matter.
