Josh Tarling Discussion Thread

If you told me two years later he wouldn’t even be competitive with Remco I wouldn’t have believed you. People will mention his injury but he was already beaten by Dan Hoole at the Giro. Remco is on another planet now and has gone to another level.
The first page in this thread is nothing short of hilarious. Best teenage TT'er ever, better than Remco within 1 year etc. As if Evenepoel didn't win the ECC in his first year pro, age 19 and didn't get silver at the WCC comfortably beating Ganna in 2019.
But it seems Tarling is having similar luck as Evenepoel, who's career also took a huge blow when he was 20 by crashing down a ravine. People here seem to believe a crash that serious is something you shake off and be up and ready again in the blink of an eye. Evenepoel needed the entirety of the 2021 season to reach the same level in 2022 where he left off in 2020.
Maybe first give him time and let him race an entire season without injuries before judging him. He is a bigger talent than Ganna, and he can still become better at time trialling than Evenepoel if his injuries fully heal and he can build up and even grow stronger the coming years. If i'm not mistaking he's had 2 serious injuries in the past 2 seasons. Of course that takes a toll.

PS: If you believe Evenepoel is now on a different level than in 2023, you need to rewatch the 2023 Giro opening ITT. Throughout his career Evenepoel has suffered from injuries, illness with shifting goals because of that, including chasing GC dreams in Vuelta, Giro and Tour as well as classics and RR medals, which have made his TT inconsistently great instead of continuously superb. While Tarling and Ganna may also suffer from injuries, i doubt they will start going for GC in any of the GT's any time soon, nor have realistic expectations to become world champion on the road. With 2023 WCC scheduled ahead of the Vuelta instead of after it as normal, it threw off his preparation for both the WCC as well as the Vuelta.
