Promising for Paris. Are both he and Ganna doubling up and doing the Team Pursuit as well as TT.
TT course at Paris looks tailor made for him and Ganna. Even though pancake flat Remco will challenge. Very difficult to foresee a podium which does not include Ganna, Tarling and Remco - difficult to call in which order at this Stage.

Maybe it's a good thing he didn't, he seems like a good kid, and it's perhaps for the best that he doesn't get all the attention of an Olympic gold medallist this early.

He will be interesting to follow next Saturday tbh. I have seen something from him this year that makes me think he can be a dangerous (unlikely) dark horse in a race like this.

Imho second strongest today. Great ride, a shame about the puncture. I feel it's even worse than losing time with a bikechange due to a crash, because in case of a crash, you can blame yourself. A puncture is just bad luck. On the other hand, a good thing the gap with Evenepoel was nearly 28s, because that means he was not going to get gold. Would have been tragic if he finished only 13s from gold.

He sounded very disappointed in the Sporza interview. Doesn't want to take anything away from the guys on the podium. Good chap. His time will certainly come, he's already better than Ganna, and so far no other TT monster on the horizon. He'll just have to deal with Evenepoel in the future, who is likely to put less emphasis on his TT going forward.

Good summary - the puncture cost him silver but Remco would have been a step too far. Tough for him to take but at least he has the road race and Madison to have a crack at and focus for. I do think he has the physique and engine for Roubaix so will be intriguing to see if more focus goes on the classics.

If i were ineos id consider sending him to the vuelta - difficult to see past him for the first tt especially if ganna is not there too

Difficult to see past him and Remco dominating TTs now. Remco for all courses and will be a battle between the two on flat fast courses.

Interesting difference in styles between the two - Tarling was pushing a huge gear today with noticeably lower cadence than all of the other top TTers

Hope this isn’t the start of the typical Ineos young rider regression. Maybe struggled to get over the disappointment at the Olympics.

Bit of an overreaction after one TT.

Not worth reading too much into it- his olympic TT was very good and would have finished second to Remco.

Was a very short very fast windy (weather wise) TT

I am more interested in what he can do through the different types of stages at this Vuelta. This will give us an idea of what type of rider he will end up.

Fluctuations in form are normal at that age. He'll bounce back eventually (not that he has fallen very deep given the level of competition).

Went over after riders crashed in front of him in Roubaix and broke his knee, punctured right after, missed the race-defining split and had his Nibali moment, similar incident in the Vuelta which messed up his prep here, puncture in Olympics costing him (2nd?).

Sometimes your luck just isn't in, due to the problems with the team a lot of pressure unfortunately and unfairly falls on a 20 year old, perfect storm of bad circumstances and his head appears to be on Mars at the moment.

Positives that his climbing is rapidly improving and he's only 20, he will be properly competitive in the classics next season I think.

You have to admit though, there is something darkly funny about Thomas still getting Ineos' season best result at the tender age of about 60.
