Jumbo - QuickStep merger

So now the mud is being thrown around to blame people for the merger not happening? Jeez ...
By the way, if you happen to know a cyclist who would like to be a pro, tell them to ring Ineos as they need 12 before October 16 (if I remember correctly).
Alpecin have 18 listed for next year. Movistar have 7. There's bound to be some major development still, although I don't know what it would be.

The Jumbo team could also still fold. The Amazon story has not been confirmed, at least not that they'll pay hard cash (just that they'll have a media deal, but who needs a media deal when you don't have a team). There were already gaps in the budget due to Gorillaz not paying up. And whether Jumbo is actually still paying next year also remains a bit uncertain, it seems.

As it looks now, they had one other option: Amazon. If you're a responsible manager you don't just investigate a single option... and it's not even clear if that was really about a title sponsorship.

I know you will do everything you can to protect your team and everyone who's involved, so you do you, but you know damn well that they can find a normal sponsor with a normal budget. The fact is that they want a huge budget. Yes, then it's hard to find a sponsor. I will never ever defend a guy who goes shopping at other teams resulting in that team almost shutting down. Never.

You have been acting here like they are in dire need of money, like they have no other way to go like they are HPH or Black Spokes, or Blanco in the past. They are not and you know it.

So far we don't even know for sure if Jumbo is actually already stepping down for next year (cause that would be a breach of their contract).
I believe you when they fold or have to let a lot of good riders go because they don't have money anymore.

I think your problem is that you just can't believe this team could be in dire straits, because they're so successful. It's painful, but in the current economic model of cycling it's perfectly possible. It wouldn't be the first time.

Yes I absolutely don't believe a team like JV can't find a normal 10 to 12M euro sponsor when lower level teams have no problem finding sponsors for 8 or even 9M. Literally every story about this merger also talks about wanting to battle against UAE en Ineos, and that's why they need more money. Plugge and everyone at JV have basically said this over the year too, that they want an international sponsor that pays big bucks. That's where the problem (possibly) is, they want more, I don't want to call it greedy cause well, maybe they need more to actually have a chance in the future (I have a different opinion about it but ok). If they settle with 10M for example to just replace Jumbo or less (as Visma will pay more) I am convinced they will have a sponsor in no time.

Anyways, you don't have to repeat your stance every single time I post in this thread. Let's agree to disagree. If I have to believe you, they will fold now. That's what I'm getting from this.

It is of course possible to project an image of grandeur, to make it seem like you're super attractive for sponsors and you can pick whomever you want. That creates confidence within your team and to the outside world. But whether it's really true... right now it seems that it isn't.

Let's see if they need to sell some assets if there's a budget shortfall. There's a scenario here where some riders could be invited to find a new team elsewhere if Jumbo Visma (or what's left of them) can't afford the current operating costs under their new set-up.

It all seems... desperate & highly volatile. It's a mess, basically.

Ok this is just weird. They were supposedly about to ditch them (and the PON guys were absolutely not amused) and now PON will become a namesponsor. Was all this flirting with another bike sponsor just to make PON put up more money?

Who's saying they're putting up more money? Plugge is out of time. It's a salvage operation to make sure they have a team next year after the merger failed (that's what it certainly appears like from the outside).

They might try to spin this as positive news but it's a total clusterf*ck.
