Racer comments after Stage 3, courtesy of TV Slovenia and Siol.net:

Ulissi: "This was a very hard stage and I am very happy to have won it. I felt OK on the first two climbs of the stage and I did not have any problem following the leaders. Big thanks to my teammate Špilak who helped me a lot on the final climb."

Špilak: "This was a demanding stage. On the final climb I overestimated my strength, but then Ulissi did an excellent job. I am definitely pleased with my third place in the stage as I did not expect such a good result."

Vrečer: " I am not the least disappointed. I am sorry for my team members who worked hard for me at the head of the peloton for 2 days. I exepected to reach the end of the stage one minute sooner. I had the feeling that other teams were not racing to win, they were racing to defeat my team Perutnina Ptuj. I attacked as I promised, then I had to chase Špilak, which drained some of my power. I wish to finish at least the 3rd in general classification."

[N.B.: Common opinion is that Vrečer attacked too early on the final climb instead of keeping control on other contenders. After Špilak escaped, he had to chase him alone, the rest of the group was wheelsucking behind, which Ulissi utilized perfectly.]

The battle on the final climb to Golte was epic. Report from TV Slovenia is available here:
http://tvslo.si/predvajaj/kolesarska-dirka-po-sloveniji-reportaza/ava2.108379178/

Skip to 8:50 to get directly to the start of the final climb. (footage quality is very so-so, and you may thank God that you do not understand Slovenian so you are spared the commentary, but the action is worth the look, I think).

But if nothing else, seeing how Špilak "the maniac" crossed the finish line at 26:53 is something to see... [Update: and here is the photo if it]

Vrecer should e snapped up by Astana maybe or even QS. Maybe GreenEDGE too. How old is he and what type of rider. Can't believe Nibali dropping off, if you are not going to the TDF train for San Sebastien, don't put in mediocre performances at a race like this. Visconti shall attack tomorrow, that is my prediction.
