Kévin Vauquelin

Who expects that? I don't. And I haven't seen many others saying that either. But I'm not on Twitter, which is maybe where the real cycling opinions are.
tbh, I didn't know much about Vauquelin except I've seen his name mentioned here this week, he's only 24 so should be improving on his past and briefly checked his record in PCS. So I just put 1+1 together that he must have solid credentials. Maybe I am wrong, no biggie. But he did have a strong TT.

Whenever he's been doing well in the past, he's been excellent on short punchy climbs and pretty much nowehere on climbs of any decent length. He's always had a good TT too, but yesterday's result is of course a whole new level for him. So I guess we can't rule out completely that he has suddenly learnt how to climb mountains too, but that would surprise me a lot more than his great TT.

Wow what a fantastic 1st week for Vauquelin in the Tour de France!
He's coming off an amazing Tour de Suisse performance, so it's nice to see he kept his form.

It would be massive for him if he managed to hold on to a top10 spot in GC, but it will be hard. He is class in the short climbs, but he suffers a lot in the high and long mountains.

Quite funny, the break and him having to defend himself in the mountains in Suisse and then the puncheur heavy start with the time trial kinda pushed him into realizing that he's a pretty decent climber. Thats a 6 w/kg type of climber with great punch and all around ability, not half bad at all!

Really interesting to see what Ineos (or wherever he signs for the next season) will be able to get out of him.

Hopefully not Ineos, I'd hate that. It's also the question if a french rider would go to a team for which the clinic waters are getting deeper again. Not exactly the popular move in France.

Kevin and his team will have to be really vigilant today methinks. Dropped early or on the ramp at 120km could end in another serious liver punch. Anyway, keep fighting, Vauquelin.

Lol, great for him to be given a spot for free on GC on a day where he was dropped on the first climb of the day.

Santa Roglic more generous than Pogi.
Must be said both Vauquelin and his team have done a remarkable job in minimizing the gap yesterday and the day before.
Arkea is actually 4th in team classification which is pretty wild for a team with that budget and roster.

I don’t think there is any reason to believe he will get dropped today. These shorter/flatter climbs should suit him well and also when hes been dropping early on the mountain stages hes still been very strong the whole day, so it seems to me that it’s been very controlled. Today it would be less of a problem to go into red.

Indeed, on the Hautacam stage they had three riders in the top 12 which was quite insane. I wondered whether they could go for the team classification but the miracle didn't go that far.

So the first possible fall out from the David Rozman/Schmidt blood doping story is the hold on the Ineos signing of Kevin Vauquelin

Brailsford has taken as his first decision, after the Tour, to paralyze all the transfer negotiations that were underway, including those of Kévin Vauquelin - seventh in the Tour but whose contacts would have already been paused due to the Frenchman's refusal to join a team linked to doping
