Le Soir said:Taxi driver under arrest
... According to the authorities, the [Brussels] taxi driver tried to pick up a client at the airport, which is forbidden (as mentioned above).
Le Soir said:Approached by police officers who tried to flag him down the suspect fled with one officer on his bonnet (US English: hood).
According to the authorities the vehicle sped off for more than two kilometres,
until the officer clinging to the bonnet was able to pull out his gun
and fire at the windscreen at the level of the dashboard.
The gunshot hit the taxi driver in the shoulder and the chase was brought to an end.
Two hundred Brussels taxi drivers then blockaded the motorway near the stopped vehicle
and demanded an explanation and an apology from the authorities.
The original customer of the taxi was then able to get out and walk away unscathed.
L'arriviste said:Wasn't sure where to put this, but the story is bonkers. From today's Le Soir describing events yesterday up in Zaventem [FR].
Before you read the synopsis below, you need to know that Brussels taxi drivers are not allowed to pick up ad hoc fares at Zaventem airport, only pre-booked rides.
There's a separate cab licence for the (lucrative) airport patch.
So far so good, right?
