Idk if this is the correct page to write about this but I am quite surprised that there aren't more posts/topics about the craziness of tubeless tires. Sure wider tires with low pressure can be a little more comfortable for plus sized people but it is getting ridiculous in the peloton. Idk if hookless rims played a role as well in these accidents, but riders need to seek up before a more serious incident happens. I am glad I can still buy normal wheels, tires and TPU inners but the direction things are going is the wrong one imho.

I agree. Govekar's crash was because the tyre exploded, right? The same with Molano at the UAE Tour and Brustenga at Bessèges.

Maybe they thought he was about the punch the Trek rider in front of him...

That was sarcasm... in case that wasn't clear.

Thanks ridiculous. That is always such a pleasure to see the responses from other team members especially when it’s obviously spontaneous and heartfelt. Not a good way to make the sport more enjoyable for viewers, and any possible dangers are dwarved by the hazardous sprinter tactics and poor course design/ protections by the host.

I dont know looked fair enough to me, it might not even have been the celebrating part that did it for him, the goes and parks himself in the middle of the road during a bunch sprint and forces Milan to take avoiding action around him because he's slowed compared to those sprinting for the line, the throws a celebratory fist in the air part isjust the icing on a well baked cake already

and if they dont use that rule for those kinds of things, its not worth the paper its written on.

now all we ask for is consistency in its application

Ok, I agree with Sciatic in general, but I just rewatched and he was actually hindering Milan pretty severely in this case.
If you don't want to have to avoid a leadout rider peeling off, be nearer to the front yourself. There is nowhere that Groves could have positioned himself after pulling off that wouldn't have impeded someone. Would you rather he just continue and sprint for the line? I can imagine that only being messier. Milan himself did have to change his line (as one typically does when passing) but did not need to brake or otherwise check his speed.

I'm fine with punishment for celebrating with hands off the bars, as long as it is applied consistently.

Thanks I didn’t notice that. But shouldn’t that come under the general scope of holding one’s line and avoiding reckless behavior.

I thought in this case he still had one hand on the bars? Will have to go watch again.

Suppose so. Come to think of it, there's not really a reason to have a rule against cheering when you can dole out punishment for reckless behavior.

Yes, a bizarre thing to be excited for opening weekend.
Opening week? There have been quite a few races this year, with exciting racing. Some people need to tone down the arrogance and not pretend that only races that take place in a specific 300km x 300km area count.

Which is exactly the rule they are sanctioned under. It suited headline writers to claim it, but there is no new rule against celebrating, it has simply been added to the list of examples of potentially unsafe behaviour.

5.2 Rider decelerating during a sprint and endangering other riders (knowingly staying within the line of other riders, celebrating in the bunch, talking on the radio or taking hands off handlebars while in the bunch).
