Looks like Fahlin caught some of the sprinters napping as she was leading the group behind in from quite some way out when the cameras picked them up. Balsamo was quickest in that sprint but had herself poorly placed, I'm also surprised at Kopecky being down there as she's usually pretty quick but didn't spot her in the placement sprint to know if there was a reason. It's not like Soraya Paladin or Liane Lippert are slow, mind. Lots of promising youngsters in that group, too. Obviously we know all about Demi at this point, and at 23 she's the youngest in that group which is largely comprising veterans (even if Kasia is only 25 still, she feels like a mainstay), but in that group behind, Balsamo is 22, Lippert (again, we ought to know plenty about her by this stage) is 22. Mikayla Harvey was very prominent and she doesn't turn 22 until next week, Ragusa is 23. Valcar also had another 22-year-old in the group, Marta Cavalli, and rode very well on group 2 to get the chance at those top 10s. Cavalli and Balsamo are both pretty quick and young which augurs well for Italians at least in flat racing. I guess Soraya and Elisa will cover the rest. Evita Muzic also made the group, she's just 21, and tailing in at the end of that group alongside Cille was Niamh Fisher-Black who only just turned 20. Paule Ka's young Kiwis both showing very well, it must be said.
