What is the brown scar on the left of his belly button? subcutaneous injection?

Glow time too long for subcutaneous EPO injections bud. IV all the way these days.
IV is preferred because reduces EPO’s half-life. Suppose you’ll be few days in the middle of Australian outback where no doping control will be performed, then you can use the most efficient way to assume EPO.
Of course it’s all speculation, but that scar looks real.

It will be a bruise not a scar if subcutaneous injection. Despite the arty feel of the shot and the movie I do not think a doper would be that careless to reveal his doping so readily.

..............or could he have slipped with a razor...................

..............or been disturbed with a cat sitting on his lap

...............or been attacked by a kid sister/niece with a play sword

..............or.....................

what about oral EPO?
remember reading that it's possible these days.
maybe it's less effective?

It looks like road rash on the right of his navel and lower ribs. The mark over his navel is also likely part of the road rash because there are no stitch or staple marks to indicate a closed incision (maybe gallbladder?). If you look at the actual cover its more clear. This is a little better than the thumbnail above: http://velonews.competitor.com/outback-and-beyond-lachlan-morton-returns-to-pro-racing

As to the doping insinuations, he doesn't seem like a top candidate for doping. He dropped out of the World Tour, and is racing in the USA without results. While that doesn't make him clean, it certainly doesn't scream doper. Maybe he dropped out of the big leagues because he didn't want to dope.

Can't rule it out, his brother stopped riding altogether at a similar age (maybe even younger) as well even though he still had time on his contract with Drapac and interest from overseas teams.

That mark on his belly looks like either road rash or something that flicked up off the road.

Might be doping related, but he just wasn't serious enough. There was a GCN video where he said he didn't train for a week or more before Romandie or that he got drunk a night before races.

I'm suspecting that Morton doesn't have the "moral fortitude" to become a good European based pro. He was a crazily talented junior (7th? at Utah while on restricted gearing) and also showed well in Europe while still on restricted gearing as well.

I understand that both him and Gus did well at school and have strong options outside of cycling. It's possible that Morton feels that his life may be at a crossroad? If so Morton wouldn't be the first to leave the sport because he didn't like things behind the scenes.

He seems like an interesting guy, which is lacking in pro sports in general. It's his life, but I still go back and forth between thinking he made a good decision and feel like he's wasting huge talent. Anyway, cycling is a tough sport. It is a wonder more of em don't crack and leave.
