When Armstrong was recovering from cancer, there was a write-up on him in either Cycling News or Cycling Weekly. Armstrong himself said in the interview that if he never raced again he's be fine because he made decent money while racing and parlayed that into more financial success in the stock market.

He was quite wealthy at the time he began with his grand tour successes, so the money was definitely there.

Post-cancer/pre-return Lance also had a disability INSURANCE POLICY from Lloyds of London that would have paid out $1.5million if he never raced again. TFF is right though he can't disrupt if nobody responds to him. Already he is getting desperate and starting little exchanges with his sockpuppet, so we have him talking to himself. If we ignore every stupid thing he says then eventually he will get bored and go away, he might get really rediculous first but eventually he'll leave. True trolls don't go away. Tom Morris, AKA Flyer, Flyer's Finale, and about half a dozen other names, continued trolling on cyclingforums even though no one could see his posts. He was banned but a design flaw in the software allowed him to make invisible posts, which brought the thread to the top of the thread list. He spent nearly a year dredging up thread of years earlier to make a nuisance of himself. Mke Vandeman has been trolling Usenet with his vendetta against mountain bikes for about fifteen years. True trolls have psychological problems. They do not behave like normal people.

Even if all the regulars put him on ignore, BPC will still affect the forum for those who are not regulars.

It is a simple check by an admin to verify that his IP address is the same as Arbiter's or one of the other previously banned trolls.

Now, you say he can't risk his image. Agreed. So why, then, would you be so contentious and aggressive in defending yourself? Why build yourself up for a bigger, devastating fall if that image and cancer community is so important? And why in the world would you come back now and, according to many, start doping again? You've won, game over, why risk it?

That logic would prevail with any normal and reasonable person, in a framework of unbiased doping regulation. But Armstrong's recent behavior seems neither normal nor reasonable. He seemed desperate for the limelight, to the extent that he totally disregarded the reasonable rights and aspirations of others. Highly narcissistic people will often believe that they can beat the system....and then there is the little matter of the donation the the UCI, and the lack of a +ve test before his cancer diagnosis, and that the testing will return a false negative under predictable conditions....so maybe he has reason to believe he can beat the system. This all sounds pretty conspiracy theory / far fetched, but the more I read about the UCI, the less confidence I have in that organization.
