Time for everyone's favourite small cobbles race - well, not so small anymore, it may only be a 1.1 but there are 11 WT teams at the men's race!

The circuit
They seem to tweak the section between the final cobbled section and the finish line every year, this time they've chosen the most direct route. Otherwise, it's the same circuit as in 2019 and 2021. Unfortunately there isn't a detailed map of the circuit this year, so I've added last year's below. It's still accurate for this year, save for that detour right before the finish line.

The route won't need introduction to most of us by now, but to reiterate: the first sector (Rue du Vert Pignon), while the longest, is very easy, basically on urban cobbles. The second sector, Côte de la Roquette is on cobbles that are only a bit harder, but there's a twist: we start with 150 metres of downhill, followed by the first 450 metres of the profile below:

The final three sectors are on much rougher cobbles, comparable to Paris-Roubaix sectors, only shorter. The first of these, Chemin de Wihéries, comes almost immediately after Roquette. It's flattish, but followed by an uphill drag. It's the profile below minus the first 250 metres, and on cobbles until the 700-metre mark.

A descent takes us to the next sector, Côte des Nonettes, shorter and stingier than the other sectors.

The route then heads back towards Dour, up this (asphalted) drag...

...before heading to the final sector, Chemin Belle Vue. It's flat, but it comes inside the final 3 kilometres, making life harder for the sprinters if things have come back together. The remaining two-and-a-bit kilometres are through the sometimes-tight streets of Dour, the direct route means that the end of the uphill drag is closer to the finish line than in previous years.

So QS and Alpecin will try to get a sprint. LTS has the team to destroy this race with Gilbert, Van Moer, Vermeersch and Campenaerts. Anything but a win for them would be dissapointing imo. Wanty and AG2R also have a strong team without a sprinter that has a chance at winning. Then there's also guys like Trentin (why is he riding literally everything?), Hofstetter, Capiot, Theuns, Tiller, Van Asbroeck, etc. Good field for a .1 race.

I feel like Quickstep should probably use someone like Steimle to cover moves, if he's in shape. No idea if this one isn't too hard for Jakobsen if LTS go crazy.

pretty sure they will. You can't really go all out for a sprinter in le Samyn, there are always big groups going up the road.

Jakobsen seeems to made quite a big step up over the winter, though. Menten said he looked fantastic in Kuurne, both on th cobbles in general, as well as going uphill.

Lotto also has a sprinter in de Lie, by the way. It's probably a bit too early for him, but he said that he aims to win Roubaix in the future, so it could be a first sign of what to expect

Interesting format of Brown's start number.
Seems all numbers are in three-digit format.

One really has to carefully choose her battles here.
Congrats to Norsgaard.

That was some negative riding by Guazzini and weird tactics by FdJ at the end of the women's race. Surely it would have been better to get first or second than having Copponi sprinting for 3rd at best.

But at least Norsgaard's run of missing out on wins in Belgian races is finally over now.

What the heck was Copponi trying to do in the end???

And since Guazzini was still able to get 3rd, she should obviously had helped Van Anrooij in the final kilometers. The FdJ tactics were all over the place today.

Merlier is there for Alpecin. Campenaerts, Vermeersch, Beullens and De Lie for LTS. Trentin, Dewulf also there.

No Jakobsen so QS probably gonna try to close the gap. Wanty also only 1 or 2 guys. Arkea only 1.

Trentin doing a lot of work when LTS have 3 riders in the front group...

he probably feels incredibly strong in this field. Campenaerts doing lots of work too.

Not sure what LTS is doing in that first group. They should just sacrifice Beullens immediately. Instead they let 2 riders go lol, one of them being a strong Dewulf. Omloop Ineos tactics.

Yeah, that looks like a rather stupid move to me.
