New Zubeldia
Exactly what I came here to post.

Zubeldia is not impressed with his protege. Konig was caught on camera multiple times, finished far too close to the podium, but the real showstopper is that he was actually seen giving an interview! Zubeldia will be taking him to a high-altitude ninja school for correction.

I've seen him interviewed a few times at this Giro, and he seems to be a liiiiittle bit of an excuse maker. Keeps referencing his crash and how he lost 2 minutes, and how he did well "depsite being a domestique" to LRP. He needs to work on his explosiveness in climbs, as right now he's just a guy who hangs on until the pace is too high. If he doesn't develop that skill, then he'll just be the Czech version of TVG. Good TT'er, good climber, but nothing memorable. Top 10 guy consistently, but in history will be forgotten. But 3 top 10's in 3 years is a good start for him, much better than his hyped team leader LRP, at least in GT's.

It depends. Sometimes he's boring, sometimes exciting, when attacks. Those who know him longer then this Giro and last year Tour know that, but I'd ask too much from some people I guess. I'm sure he won't be forgotten.

He isn't moaner though.Self confident he is, but healthy. He's quite likeable guy with opinion compared to some others.

Well, he seems to have more potential than van Garderen, three top tens in three GT's is very good. Very strong in time trials and people seem to forget Konig won a nice stage in the Vuelta and also attacked in the TDF last year. I like him anyway.

Haha! It's funny how you threw TVG's name into the mix, like it's a profound conclusion. Konig has more potential than ALL but a few people in the world! lol!

I actually agree with this. I started watching this guy when he won the stage in the ToC on Mt. Diablo. That's my home mountain, and I was there during the stage. He rode for the unheralded NetApp team, putting in very respectable performances. However, since he moved to Sky, his attitude seems to be a bit of a turnoff. He does seem to have a very high opinion of himself, and isn't afraid to express it. Plus I'm anti-Sky, so it was a personal letdown for me when he went there. There's little room for him to be the number 1 guy in many races at Sky, so he shouldn't be whining about being a domestique.

And that doesn't describe TVG? He's been top 5 at the Tdf, and been extremely consistent. He just lacks that punch of acceleration, and the ability to hang with the best of the best climbers. Excellent TTer as well. Gee, that seems to describe Konig quite well!

Tell me how vastly different these guys are, and why it's a stupid comparison?

Read the post, it's pretty self explanatory. Don't put words into my mouth... :(

Yes...IF you go to SKY you have to get in line ...he surely knew this before he went there ...and was 'lucky' with this Giro that Porte went home
And next year if SKY sign Kwait as it is rumoured and keep Porte as is also rumoured then there will be less opportunities

Konig should keep his head down, learn what he can and sign as a leader for a smaller team in 2 years

Konig is way more successful GT rider than Richie Porte, in fact only Froome has better record, so he should get more than enough opportunities to lead.

And Kwiatkowski is not a GT rider

Kwiat took 11th in the 2013 28th in the Tour last year and finished the only Giro he rode in 2012. Did you mean GT contender or rider? I would argue that he's both.

He isn't whining about being domestique at all.

Seems like people here like to think up crap.

Actually Nicolas Roche has the 2nd best GT record at SKY with a 5th & 6th and two 12ths.... and he was riding dom in last 2 years ...(and Koing got 8th in the Tour last year against a weaker field due to crashes from Froome, Contador, Talansky, TJVG & a recovering Purito, absent Quintana,Hejesdal,Kelderman Aru, Uran and doming Fuglsang, Roche, Majka)

And it is rumoured that Kwait wants to be a GT rider hence his move to SKY

Konig has top 10 in all 3 GT's, in only 3 appearances, that's better for me than Roche's 5th and 6th at Vuelta. And he is three years younger, certainly seems like a better prospect. I see that you don't like the guy, but facts are facts. He is not an exciting rider, but he delivers. He got that Tour and Vuelta top 10 riding for a pro-continental team, which is a great success, and in his first Giro for a new team he clocked 6th. I would give him a fair chance in other GT's, at least as a co-leader, when Froome doesn't participate.

As for Kwiatkowski as a GT rider, when I see it, I'd believe it

He must be pretty annoyed he hasn't kept up his impressive grand tour record.

WELL LEO, YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE JOINED SKY THEN!

Or he's just happy to be picked for the Tour as he could have been left out after the tough Giro. If he has a great performance in the mountains he puts himself in the shop window for other teams too.

Personally, if it was me I would be dissapointed. I'd prefer to go to the vuelta and do the tour next year. All subjective though
