I think this is a good situation for Uae. Wellens is always strong early season. Uphill for me Wellens is stronger than Velasco and Fagundez. Berthet the best climber but wellens is faster.

It is early season Wellens but I'm not so sure if he's dropping Velasco and Fagundez. Even tho Velasco hasn't been in super form this season so far I think. Would've definitely been more problematic if it was Scaroni. Anyways I would definitely not call this ideal.

It’s Mr February we are talking about. 14 of his 39 pro wins have come in the calendar month of February. More than 1/3rd of his career tally.

With the guys UAE have here it really should've been a better situation for them, they're up against the Movistar/AG2R B-team and Astana going for points, think Wellens is still favourite because it's February. All 4 up front are decent climbers.

Yes but Wellens is a little heavier than at Lotto, focussing more on classics. Not saying he can't win. I'm saying that it isn't ideal, not that it's bad. He has a decent sprint of course, just not sure about the climb and the competitions level here. I think it's a risky play for UAE, but in the end it's normal to give Wellens his shot
