Why does Jaen have such a lack of good teams this year? Only 5 WT teams (luckily it's top WT teams).

Also how is it ok that you have a WT devo rider (Pericas) riding for the Spanish team while UAE is in the race themselves. That really feels weird. Just 8 riders for UAE.

It's a bit of an odd race with the gravel segments in February. A training run for classics guys and a change of training for the GT guys. With Algarve in the same week and a host of other warm up races, I suppose some of it comes down to logistics - who is where training, and what shape they're in etc.

Because for unknown reasons not all the teams who are riding Ruta Da Sol are not doing the warm up race.

In the end, Pericas is starting for UAE with Covi out at the last minute. Did the UCI intervene?

so lets see if Kern Pharma can disrupt the group ride in spain today. Looking forward to it.
They're not really here with their strongest line-up though. More curious to see if Álvarez can show himself after a DNF in Murcia.

I'm also hoping (in vain probably) that I don't have to continue wading through pages of personal cycling watching preferences which I'm very not interested in to find posts about the actual races going on.

Let me guess, you're only ever watching YT videos about lower league football teams?

Hot take: Thomas Silva will win his first race in Europe today. Van Aert will either crash or finish second, or both things.
El mago de Uruguay not given the prestigious 'X1' bib by Caja, maybe he's jetlagged, maybe they are trying to keep his form under the radar, or perhaps "Julen Arriola-Bengoa" is pushing insane numbers in training so they're showing faith in him instead.

Heres to hoping Wout stays upright. If he does, I don't see anyone beating him...but they race the races for a reason, so hope I'm right.

UAE leads the peloton on the gravel. Bernal, Benoot and Kuss are near the front. Van Aert stays further back.

I wouldn't mind seeing Ariolabengoa do a Lazkano and win from the break, but I don't find it too likely.

Wellens made a bit of a move on the gravel, marked by Tulett and bridged by Bernal. They stalled after the gravel was over, now a new attack with UAE and Ineos. Small moves and splits, Van Aert closes the gap. Bernal digs.
