Had it been an experienced rider, he wouldn't need the radio to tell that he wouldn't catch Poels and that he was handing 2nd to Lopez.

Sure, but to be fair, Astana isn't the easiest team to break the top 20 at currently. In First Cycling's ranking, Picnic's 20th rider is Patrik Eddy who has -10 points (in reality, I assume it's someone with 0 points).
