Good on you guys who's watching this elsewhere, because on British Eurosport for 20km they keep talking about a certain team that's not even in the race

Nacer does a Cavendish!

What a sprint! Brutal explosiveness! > Démare

Will they both be at the Tour?

Seeing it again, one of the most explosive sprints I've ever seen. Such class.

yep, shear dominance. Ok, Europcar worked hard but clearly botched the business end.

I think both will go to the tour, but we shall see.

Not live unfortunately, but there are some highlights on a German channel in the evening.

Surely not a long range attack win by Barta? Hofland instead methinks.

Glad to see Rund um Köln back into its usual April slot, I always think it's a bit of a shame that the closing part of the course is so flat, because it tends to mean sprints, although the last two years' races haven't been. It hasn't traditionally been a sprinters' race, but there was a period of a few years where it was that way. Hoping for good racing, as the German calendar gears up for Frankfurt.

Bennett
Markus
Ciolek

from a bunch sprint.

What a great start Bennett is having to his pro career. He has had a bunch of top 10s against elite fields, but he's actually winning when he's up against weaker fields, which is a good sign.

I remember when I heard Bennett had signed with Netapp I thought (and posted I believe) it was a wise decision. Due to by riding with Netapp instead of a world tour team he could race some lower category races for results while still being able to do some of the races he might do in a WT team for experience. As well as being able to deal with overall less pressure on a Pro Conti then he would deal with on a WT team. I'd say he's proving that to be accurate.

He's having a great season with winning Almeria and now here, plus some good placings in some other higher category races. Good to see. :)

Yes, NetApp do appear to be an ideal team from that point of view - big enough that they get invites to big races and can put in solid work, small enough that they don't have an established sprinter automatically ahead of a new kid in the pecking order.

Just looking at their cq page, it's just as well that they signed Bennett and Machado because with Konig injured they've been very dependent on them for early season results.

Silvio Herklotz gets second place at the Giro del Belvedere (1.2U), just like last year. Zalf's Simone Andreetta beat him in a two-man sprint.

Summary of the race now live on TV (WDR) or over here: http://www1.wdr.de/mediathek/video/livestream/ (also some other stuff in between)

Thanks for that. Quite a weird highlights package.

It looked like Belkin set up the sprint perfectly for Markus. Ciolek had Markus' wheel, Bennett had Ciolek's. When Markus went, Ciolek tried and failed to come round him on one side while Bennett came past them both on the other.

Officially they have made no decisions on their Tour squad.

Unofficially, assuming his run of injuries doesn't screw up his season, the leader will be Konig. Then there are other obvious picks like Machado and Barta.

Bennett is one of those obvious picks if they were just taking their best group of riders, but his case is more complex because he's a first year neopro who has never been in a GT before. He's doing exceptionally well so far, but they may be a bit nervous of just throwing him in the deep end.

Bringing him gives the team something constructive to do other than just trying to put a man in the break of the day for the first ten stages or so (which they should also do anyway). But will they really want to bring riders to help him in the sprints?

Short answer: I don't know. If they do bring him it may be with the intention of having him drop out halfway through.

One of the Poppel brothers did just that last year. Allocate one guy to Bennett in all the flat stages. Don't think it will impede on others' chances anyway. I think it could take some of the pressure off Konig, Barta and Machado, if Bennett gets a couple of good placements.

he was suffering like a dog in Tirreno. I think it's too early for him do to the Tour, unless it's just for a week or something like that
