Bennett had the wheel of Groves, but then Philipsen made his move and boxed him in, so he never got to sprint. That was unlucky, but at least he tried unlike Ewan.

Pretty sure Ewan was involved in that cras in the last corner. He was in Philipsens wheel with 3 Lotto guys around him just before that corner and then he disappeared.

Split stage on day 4 in the Vuelta del Uruguay. The first half was a no-real-climbs-because-it's-Uruguay-but-constant-repechos-and-annoying-changes-in-gradient stage from Lago Merín to Melo, and then the second half was a short contre-le-montre.

And although he might have been outshone by younger brother Mauri in recent years thanks to the restorative qualities of the Portuguese air, Federico Agustín (usually just known as Agustín to differentiate him from his father) Moreira does not want to be left behind, and he is on a mission after missing the crucial escape a couple of days ago. With lots of opportunities to drive the pace and a lack of consistent gradient on the roads, it was thought that the semitappe could be one for a baroudeur with the favourites preferring to save energy for the chrono, but in the end new leader Agustín Alonso's team controlled the race and despite multiple attempts to escape, kept it to the very end before Moreira was able to get clear in the final kilometre and take the semitappe with a few seconds' advantage.

And then, the son of the country's greatest ever cyclist indulged his Jan Schur/Uwe Ampler side even more by winning the ensuing 8km test against the clock to take both halves of the day's action, by the slim margin of 2" from Funvic's André Gohr, and then Sixto Núñez was 3rd ahead of the camisola amarela of Agustín Alonso. This enabled Alonso to extend his lead from a mere 1" to 7" over Fernando Méndez and the remains of that day 2 breakaway fill the rest of the top 10 while the likes of Moreira try to fight their way back to the front.

Clear win by Philipsen, but Groves stopped pedaling with 20 meters left for some reason. Side note: The French Eurosport announcers call him "Kaden Grooves."

5th for Caruso the sprinter. It's been a while since he was fourth in a bunch sprint in the Giro back in 2012.
5th while being a leadout, or possibly even the third to last man in the train.

On a side note: somebody give Malucelli a contract.

Honestly I thought Malucelli would probably go straight back to Androni.

Funny how the forum has gone full circle to being happy for the Gazprom guys to do well after all the vitriol on the UAE thread

Well, I don't think anyone had any problem with the riders of that team per se, just had a problem with them racing with their colours with all that's going on.

And they aren't Gazprom riders anymore, as all contracts have been terminated.

Ferron attacked, but was brought back. Then the pace dropped, and Delaplace rode away to victory. Ferron took second place and Ferasse won the sprint for third.

Quite funny result list.
Arkea-Total-BB-Ag2r in the first 4 places in the break.
Arkea-Total-BB-Ag2r in the first 4 places in the peloton.

yeah, they will be a bit upset that the break made it, I guess. Louvel taking the win would have meant 8kg more cheese ;)

Wait, it's "your weight in cheese", not "a big huge wheel of cheese"?

I don't think the times are quite right.

I didn't verify it, but Belgian press had the headline "Wint Jens Reynders zijn gewicht in kaas?" this morning at least.

He did not, by the way.

I just thought that if Louvel winning would have meant more cheese, then there'd be a difference in how much they'd get.
Though, I guess a camembert cheese has a specific weight.

looks like Belgian press was wrong indeed. Godon "only" got 36kg last year, at least

Groves is definitely quicker this year - What I've noticed is he really only has a strong sprint for 100 metres and he can accelerate quickly from the slipstream. So this provides limitations but if he is in good position and is patient then he is a chance in many sprints.

Last day before the first rest day in the HTV Cup, and with that in mind we got a somewhat surprising BOTD consisting of Phạm Quốc Cường, Erdenebat Bilguunjargal and Igor Frolov. As you can imagine, a break including such strong riders and indeed GC threats was not allowed much rope and Lộc Trời chased them down coming in to the first intermediate sprint to prevent them gaining any bonus seconds, instead allowing the ever-vigilant Võ Thanh An to gain a few, as well as Nguyễn Văn Bình taking 2 seconds to extend his lead in the U23 classification. In the end, the always aggressive Bilguunjargal joined the next move, but Vinama settled for Nguyễn Minh Việt rather than one of their two leaders in a large group also including Huỳnh Thanh Tùng and Trần Lê Minh Tuấn. They gained about a minute before exploding attacking one another before the second intermediate, and while they made it to the sprint unhindered, the in-fighting cost them most of their advantage.

While some of the break were able to re-establish a lead, none of the most key GC names were involved even though Nguyễn Hữu Đức was just 43" behind; they were well under control. The last escapees were caught within sight of the line, although the long, wide finishing straights here make that sound more dramatic than it actually was. Trần Tuấn Kiệt took his second stage in a row, while once more the Lộc Trời boys took advantage of time bonuses to extend their lead, Quàng Văn Cường taking 2nd and Nguyễn Tấn Hoài 3rd respectively.

Didn't Tour of Turkey used to be a WT race with a very hilly route? It seems now it's just a race sprinters go to without having to be annoyed by GC teams in te finishes.

In my mind it was a WT race with a similar route as this one. Most of the time just one mountain stage.
