In Dutch we have the word "gunfactor", from "gunnen": wanting someone to get something. NFB doesn't have the gunfactor.NFB will probably win the stage, just holding Kasia's wheel for so long. But that is bike racing.
Very much so, today. At the same time, it's a great day for NFB, with her first big win as a young rider. In Dutch we have the word "gunfactor", from "gunnen": wanting someone to get something. NFB doesn't have the gunfactor.
Indeed. What was it, a 55 kilometer leadout?Very happy to see Niamh winwhat a truly epic leadout from Kasia!
Well, I do "gun" NFB a win, just not this particular win. But then again, it's part of cycling, a cruel sport and a sport that allows for tactics like this.Very much so, today. At the same time, it's a great day for NFB, with her first big win as a young rider.
At least it wouldn't have made a difference if she had won the stage (unless she had opened up a gap to NFB).Urgh, Kasia missing out on the podium by 7 seconds, what a shame![]()
Yes. It is a fair win for NFB, and no one could blame her for wanting to take her first win in the big league. She was almost compelled to do it.Well, I do "gun" NFB a win, just not this particular win. But then again, it's part of cycling, a cruel sport and a sport that allows for tactics like this.
Maybe if it weren't a first career win she might not have taken it, but it's still easy to be very bitter about it, especially when it's SD Worx, the team that is dominating, that does it. I think that colours peoples' opinions more, because we're seeing a top, top pro rider who hasn't won a race in over four years and has done all the work to stay away being done dirty by the team that has already secured a 1-2 on the GC and won 2/3 stages to date, and viewing it through that prism rather than it being a rider who has yet to take an elite level victory. At the same time, here in the race with supposedly cannibalistic, selfish Demi Vollering (I've already said that I don't believe in any of that, I think it only applies when she and Kopecky race together), they've spread the wins around with two of their younger prospect riders getting stages; opportunities for the 'lesser' riders on their roster has to be a crucial thing for SD Worx to manage because of how overpowered the team is, they don't want to lose the loyalty of the few riders they can expend as domestiques or have them feel marginalised and want to move. No matter how much they may think Kasia may have deserved it, I can't see the team car realistically telling Niamh to back off at the finish. Kasia will have known what was coming and it's not like she is a strong sprinter even when she hasn't done all the work for two for several kilometres before that. What a shocking finish - How can NFD attack Niewadoma for the win when Reusser has the GC sewn up - SD Worx are doing themselves no favors with the peleton - Once the peleton gets their tactics right it will be harder for SD Worx.
She is surprisingly decent against the clock, looking at her earlier results I'd clocked her as a climber in similar vein as a youngster to the likes of Fisher-Black, but it looks like she might be more all-round than that.Rayer didn't impress me in Alpes Gresivaudan Classic, where she couldn't defend her 2nd place from last year, but this was much, much better. Finishing in the top 10 in her first ever WWT stage race is a big result.
It's pronounced like Neve, it's an old Irish spelling, as Irish Gaelic is fond of etymological spellings. Just like Siobhan/Shevaun, Sean/Shaun and so on.Niamh sounds like a F1 car passing by.
This was the 2009 Tour de Suisse, but for women. The bigger picture with this race was the unbalanced route - You can't have a 25kms ITT ( which favors Reusser the home rider ) supported by two hilly stages and a 55km first stage - At least last year they had a a high mountain stage - Anyway, I'm looking forwars to the World's ITT - I not sure that Reusser is the favorite because Dygert is in good shape and she dominated the 2019 ITT and would have won the 2020 ITT except for a late crash.
Eh? She was obviously racing for GC as 3rd place was well on the line. NFB sat in the wheels for like 50km, everyone's gonna be beaten easily after that.I was surprised how little Kasia had left in that final run to the line, ok sure NFB has been sat back there for a while, but she barely had to sprint hard to take that
And why in the final 1km, 30 sec gap keep your nose in the wind at that stage, in fact bring Reusser into it if you are running on fumes, because then what's SD worx game plan going to be ? They might trip over themselves trying to sort the best finish for NFB, if you know the 1 on 1 isn't going to happen for you, mix it up more.
Part of the reason why Kasia doesn't win many stages is she tries to win them like this, and SD worx have already said this year they don't count her as rider who they consider a threat, not surprising when she happily gives them such a tow for so long, not so much Niamh as just a naive way to race imo
