The fourth edition of the UAE Tour starts today and they've opted for pretty much the same procedure as every year, so no Liwa Palace circuit, time trial, Jebel Jais, Jebel Mobrah or other crazily steep climbs.
Let's hope we'll get a closer fight for the overall victory than last year, and that if echelon occur that they will have a beneficial impact on the racing. ELB was not unbeatable two years ago, so nothing is set in stone. Le Court and Trinca Colonel have kept improving over the last 12 months, and Kasia, Reusser, NFB and Van der Breggen are all riding here for the first time.
As usual it's hard to imagine that someone will beat Wiebes in the sprints, but we know that it does happen once in a while. Kool and recent Olympic torch bearer Consonni (Cecchini and Zanardi have also had that honour) are the most likely contenders, but others may have a chance, too.
Another question is whether Petra Stiasny will be able to reach Jebel Hafeet in the front group. HPH says she is focusing on the climb, but I hope the team won't leave her to herself on the flat.
