I wouldn't call it suspicious as I don't like to point fingers at someone without proof, but this victory practically came out of thin air. His best previous result in LBL was 22th. You make it sound as if this was something we could expect.

Edges of top 10 in Amstel? His best result there was 22th.

Anyway great race, strongest man won.

2012 Amstel Gold Race:
11 IGLINSKIY Maxim AST 6h 32' 49" +4"

I must admit, I didn't see him as a top man for Liège given that his best classics performances are in races like E3 and San Remo (and de Ronde), but his mountain domestiquing duties for Contador in '08 meant I knew he could climb when he was on the right form for it, so when he was in the front group I thought he could get a top result.

I didn't think he'd win, but I thought he could get a top result. When him and Rodríguez went away I desperately wanted them to stay away so he got on the podium. Still didn't think he'd win.

Cunego doesn't have the consistent goods. I wonder what exactly he was on in the 2004 Giro.

Scarponi was obviously saving his legs in Trentino, I didn't expect him to do well today but it's no surprise that he did. I expected Cunego to be better though.

Not such an in form Scarponi, but I told you all Trentino was gonna take its toll on Cunego

Anyway great race, strongest man won.

aren't you a gilbert fan? just a thought.

A long solo break away, iirc. ;) I was hoping for more from him today. A top five, or at least a top ten in the first pursuit group.

Yeah, I got a few questions answered there aswell..

He should hook up with that squealing teenage AC supporter la florecita, and drown their sorrows with Shirley Temples.

I didn't.
But as many pointed out before, Trentino was an extremely hard race this year, and I don't believe Damiano when he says he saved some of his legs.

Still disappointed though.
But the list of disappointments is pretty long today.

I'm happy that Scarponi was only training at Trentino. He and Basso will do a great Giro!

it was betfair :) whatever idot layd me must be crying now

Not necessarily - I backed and layed Albasini with different providers cos I spotted a gap in prices so I was guaranteed a profit either way, maybe the guy did the same. Well I hope so for his sake. Well done anyway, great result! I'd got Dan Martin for the podium at 20-1 (Betfair hadn't even listed him!) and he was very close but no cigar.

Brilliant finish, hard luck to Nibali but a great ride from Iglinsky to bridge across. Also, fantastic from Dan Martin, the wet weather this week must have helped his allergies.

Btw, Igor Anton must have crashed, broken collar bone.

Well, an up and down day for me as a sports fan already. Started ****ing ****ty when Spartak Moscow lost 3 - ****ing - 0 to piece of **** Anzhi Mahachkala on home turf, then we get this awesome Astana win, now it's time for Capitals to beat up on stupid Bruins to really end this day on a positive note

Yeah, that is the only thing that won it for him. He covered and took time from Simoni the remainder of the race.

He hasn't been half the rider since then in GT's and has admitted he is NG at them since then (so wth happened in 2004?).

Cunego is one of those guys that flies under the suspicious radar because of his nice persona. Somebody coming out of nowhere winning lead up races to the Giro that year, then winning it, then never sniffing the podium again is much more suspicious than Ignlinsky.

i actually said it during the race, and the end result just confirmed my prediction (tho i was hoping with all my strength for a different result)

after causing a nice selection he should have sit up for a couple and watch the race develop for a bit, if some1 made a good looking move on the flat until the saint nicolas he should follow, if not he should make his big move there only 6k where he was sure he could hang on to the finish.

he just let's himself get carried away by looking the strongest and can't hold himself and think for a minute. i must say tho, that is one of the reasons why i love him
