Evenepoel has an alpha mentality, he won't just suck Pogacar's wheel for the whole race. Seixas will be helping as well until he cooks himself (he's most likely to end up like that) .

I don't think Seixas will cook himself, he didn't at Strade either and that was after trying to keep up with Pogacar for quiete a while during his winning attack.

Hoping for a good edition, Pogacar's team being on the weaker side of UAEs possibilities should help to make it a longer final as well. But I don't think there is a chance, if bad luck doesn't strike, that Pogacar looses this. Yes Seixas is super impressive, but Pogacar is super super strong and we've seen nothing to suggest that he'll fall off his level. Remco looked strong in AGR as well, but did we see anything this season that suggests he could stay with one of Pogacar's nuclear attacks? I don't think so.

That's not true. Seixas completely blew himself trying to chase Pogacar. He was caught by Del Toro 2 km later.

Taking turns with Evenepoel for a long time won't be pleasant for the tall Frenchman. The bullet man doesn't give you any aero shadow. Even for Pogi it's not really good but I'm assuming he'll have a better engine than Seixas.

Pogi's also only 5cm taller than Remco, rather than 15cm like the Messiah.

If being caught after an effort, hanging on, and finishing before who caught you is blowing yourself up completely, you really shouldn't build bombs, because they'd not be impressive.
When you are clearly better than your opponent (Del Toro), and you are caught 2 km after a climb where you had a 10" advantage,it's a blow.

Edit: Pogacar attacked with 79 km to the finish, 14 km later, he had a 1' gap. I said he blew because the gap just increased massively in a short amount of time.

It‘s not really a blow to be caught by other riders at 80k to go if your name isn‘t Tadej Pogačar. It would have been very stupid if he hadn‘t been caught by Del Toro immediately and had tried to outsolo Pogačar.

In my memory Liege was a better race 20+ years ago in general, but maybe I am just romanticizing the past.

Edit: *** me, Rebellins triple is already 22 years ago. How is that possible, when I am just 22 myself right now? Or am I lysing to myself?

I haven't heard about the Forever 22 concept before, but I like it. According to, PCS Pozzovivo has suddenly gained 10 kg. of mass since his original retirement. That also makes me feel better about myself, although I am not sure that's what he meant when he said he had reached his highest numbers ever.

My favorite editions:
  • 1980 Hinault wins Neige-Bastogne-Neige
  • 1987 Moreno Argentin pops up from behind the cars.
  • 1992 Dirk De Wolf goes solo and fills buckets of sweat.
  • 1999 Frank Vandenbroucke teaches Bartoli a lesson on La Redoute.
  • 2011 Philippe Gilbert toys with the Schleck brothers.
  • 2019 Jakob Fuglsang takes his biggest win at thirty-four.
  • 2022 Remco Evenepoel goes solo on La Redoute.
  • 2024 Pogacar in nuclear mode; Bardet the first of the ordinary people.

Sunday could be another Pog show, but Seixas and Evenepoel are worthy challengers. Hopefully someone like Pidock or Skjelmose can also play a role.

Then again Seixas was like 13 sec slower than Ganna in a 20k flatish tt in Algarve, so dunno if there's any challenges for him getting low and pedalling crazy hard.

I quite enjoyed the 2006, 2008, 2015 and 2017 editions.

The whole of France and everyone hoping to see the Pog-dominance broken jumped on the Seixas bandwagon. According to the bookmakers he has already twice the odds to win LBL vs Remco, a two-time winner. He actually never competed in a 250km race except one (Lombardy) where he lost minutes against him. Seixas is doing great, he is probably the third best climber at the moment and he is in top shape doing atitude training since January. However, he is still only 19 and his engine doesn't seem at the level to compete with Pogacar and Evenepoel in such a hard and long race.
