That's what Schachman was hoping too. But that whole pack is just waiting for Pogacar to launch and then they will start riding for crumbs
Well, to stay well positioning at la Redoute is not a bad idea and maybe is better...as UAE is going to do the the same whoever attackes

i dont even mind that redoute is a chokepoint , the problem is the degree and how brief the race is

and this approach with fight for position on a high speed descent after a plateau

I just don't know what is best to do about it. There are certainly other climbs they could put in the run-in that give us more options, but that just backloads the race further and means more of this kind of waiting scenario, especially if those climbs are hard enough that they wait for those, it'll become like the worst days of the 2010s again.

But with this run toward it, Maquisard and Desnier are just not tough enough to be viable attacking opportunities so it's just a waiting game from Spa through to Redoute. There are so many climbs here, but a lot of the steeper ones are closer to Liège and as long as La Redoute is a focal point in the race they're likely to be dealing with this awkward run-up to it that leads us to this single decisive point role.
