After what we saw on Amstel this is not surprising. he was not that convincing on the climbs.
What is is surprising is that the gap was that big.

Podium locked for the Tdf based on current qualities and no problems.
1.Pogacar
2.Vingegaard
3. Seixas

Rest battling for Top 5

It's not fat, it's muscle - and that is a more difficult trade off to make.

Every gram you drop is power lost - but less to drag uphill.
In a mug shot I saw fat under his chin. It shows he has some to lose. But he'll never get to the Pog / Seixas level of acceleration uphill after a very hard lead-out. His forte is racing in a smaller group and choking other riders because they don't get any draft out of him.

While I don't condone it, it's a lot different when you do it in your first monument than when you do it in one you've done three times already.
100%. I think it's completely excusable, he doesn't know what's going to happen and he racing defensively would be a bit strange if he still has something left. First time 1v1 against Pogacar, I think you're not going to play games

The only reference point I know of for Seixas on a flat sprint after climbs he was bested by Felix Gall last year in a random Tour of Alps stage, he's improved obviously so who knows, will probably still get dropped on RaF.

Schmid is such a smart rider

He's been at the back of the peloton all day, he was still at the back 5K before the foot of La Redoute.

But when Pogacar dropped the hammer, he was 2 wheels behind him, and now he has stolen the march on the group behind by joining the break (where he is now again just sitting at the back :D )

Disappointed for Remco. It must be frustrating to put in so much work, make a big team move, and end up going backwards at the same time as Pogacar and Seixas make a massive leap forward. You have to wonder how much of this is physical vs mental. Pogacar has the advantage of knowing he is the best; Seixas has an iron will it seems and hasn’t suffered defeat after defeat like Remco has recently (outside of TTs); Remco seems mercurial by nature and is a champion who doesn’t take it well when others ride away.

The fact that nobody but the aliens can force separation between themselves and the 25th-best rider in the race for the third year running says quite a bit about the strength in depth right now.
the way its ridden hurts those just below the best

especially when they get fried trying to follow pogi in the beginning of redoute

Evenepoel has checked out mentally. Given that there are no physical issues that we know of this time, it has to be one of his most disappointing showings since he truly became one of the big guns in 2022.

I'm no longer convinced that Seixas is just third. He's improving every month.

As has been said over the last while, Remco getting doored seems to have really screwed something up with him; this is not the same rider who torched everyone at CSS as a 19 year old. A bridge too far for him maybe? Sure hope not but no way should he be this ordinary.

You can also look at it the way that he has plenty of monuments ahead of him (many of them probably w/o Pogacar).
Can't stand this "dont ride with Pogacar" talk anymore. I prefer 100x Pogi to "kill" another race than for anyone else to put a wheel ahead of Pogacar on the finish line after hiding behind him for an hour
If a rider can hide behind Pog for an hour, it's on Pog to not pull this rider to the finish.
