this move goes back to the beginning of 2010 as part of the Bruyneel/LA masterplan to stop Contador-just got a bit derailed due to the Federal Investigation....

yes- Olympus SARL own by LA & Bruyneel along with Bill Stapleton(LA's lawyer) are the current owners of the RS licence- I also recall barely something about Livestrong involved in the ownership too

It is like you got sucked in by the hype? Or were you trolled by LA and JB? http://www.livestrong.com/teamradio...cycling-super-team-links-top-riders-sponsors/
Team will feature top riders from Team RadioShack and Leopard-Trek

"As announced earlier today, CSE Pro Cycling LLC is proud to announce that RadioShack and Nissan are joining the Leopard-Trek World Tour Team as sponsors for the 2012 and 2013 seasons. The team will hold a license in Luxembourg and be named the RadioShack-Nissan-Trek Professional Cycling Team. All marketing operations will be operated out of Austin, Texas by CSE Pro Cycling LLC. All sporting operations will be managed by Johan Bruyneel Sports Management in both Belgium and Luxembourg.

• The team will continue to represent LIVESTRONG in the global fight against cancer."

Hey the name of the team starts with Radio Shack. Try not to get sucked into the hype. Wait for it.

Don't say I didn't tell you so....

Well this thread has been on the go since the August 29th.

This rumor has been going around since the Tour and is again picking up steam.
Nygaard out. Johan in. Becca not happy that a marketing guy like Nygaard cannot get a title sponser

Of course everyone could have done what you did and not commented on it so as to appear wise after it has been confirmed.

I actually wrote about this merger 6 months ago....and was flamed of course.

Given that Brunyeel has done so little to build the team in the last 4 months you have to think he was well aware that the current incarnation of Radioshack had no future. When you main sponsor does not even put out a press release that they are sponsoring your team you know something is wrong

Didn't someone say this event would be hailed as a great milestone for cycling by the sponsors? Because JB just said, "This is a great milestone for our team and our global sport."

He meant to say, "This is a great gravestone for our team and our global sport."

I never flamed you! That is another one of the problems when you guys perceive some type of attack / troll / flame. You just start to throw those labels around.

For me I thought it was interesting how some thought they knew how this was going down. When it was all told the news was not what some wanted it to be. I can understand that there is some deep hate here for these guys in question. So I would expect that y'all will come at me for trying to point out something.

Radio Shack is still on the front of this team and somehow the LA/JB GROUP found a way to stay inside cycling. I am not saying that is a good thing I am just pointing out that maybe just maybe it is better to cool the jets until solid info comes out.

I agree that he will be part of the Leopard team, but it will not be his team, company, or licenses. Brunyeel's team is done......and judging by his lack of action in the last 6 months it has been done for a while.

Well, can someone decipher all this?

As a side note, bickering over who predicted what/when appears unseemly and degrades the thread. Maybe start another thread on points scored.

As staff scramble to secure their jobs for next year the big question is who will be the team cook.

Not to be rude.....but you didn't

Olympus did not hold the Radioshack license, CSE did.
http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/bill-stapleton-cse-will-own-manage-team-radioshack

The license the press release is referring to is the one held by Becca, not Brunyeel.

So CSE goes from running a Pro Tour team to running the marketing for a ProTour team.....selling jerseys to groupies

not to be rude either-but I care less if you think I didn't-the fundamental issue here is that Johhan Bruyneel, Lance Armstrong with Livestrong & Bill Stapleton-and nonetheless TREK are behind this move - You keep saying Becca holds the license- have you thought of the possibility of "sharing the Licensing rights? how can Becca alone be the "sole" license holder when the main structure of this "merger" comes from LA/JB/BS & the American backers?

you are perhaps on the specifics- I am rather looking at the entire plot:cool:

Well, can someone decipher all this?

Sure.

Who owns the team? Becca
Who owns the License? Becca
Who will drive the car? Johan
Who will sell jerseys and keep Radioshack happy? CSE
What happen to CSE's ProTour License for 2012? It is done, CSE will not have a license in 2012

The only big outstanding questions are what will the UCI's response will be and what happens to the U23 team.

I do not agree that the main structure comes from LA/JB/BS. In fact it looks like they started closing down the team months ago. Many riders have left and they signed only couple of new riders for 2012. Most of the riders will be Leopard Trek riders, not Radioshack. The License is key. Becca owns it.

My opinion this has evolved. The transition certainly could have been managed better. Staff and riders could have been given more notice.....but on the positive side it could be a better managed combination then the individual teams could provide. I don't see Radioshack being around that much longer but the sport needs global sponsors like Nissan.

If over the next 1-2 years they evolve into a dominate team that gives a global sponsor an excellent ROI it will attract more high level sponsors to the sport. Something the sport needs.

Firstly, RR never said that you flamed him.

As for the rest of your post - it appears aimed at posters and has nothing to do with the merger, indeed I have to question why you singled out my post for comment when I have never offered how this merger/breakup would develop. I have been following the same reports as anyone else and not claimed any knowledge of events.

If you have nothing to contribute to the (ongoing) discussion then don't post, simple.

So basically Bruyneel switches license to Luxembourg. Could be an interesting way to remove assets from U.S. oversight. And, leaves a whole series of riders SOL in the process.

Could be quite the series of lawsuits being filed in Austin unless payoffs are substantial. A whole load of breach of contract

Really? and why was that happening? -perhaps a "new team" was in the works behind closed doors? remember LA's comeback 2.0 with Astana? don't you see a similar "modus operandi" here?

Whatever:rolleyes: let's "assume" you're right- the only possible reason for that to be truth is perhaps that Andy & Frank Schleck are both under the contract own by Becca and they preferred it to be that way-rather than being "slaves" of Bruyneel.....Sadly I'm inclined to believe the Hog "already" own them...

Mostly agreed. But the "sporting operations will be managed by Johan Bruyneel Sports Management in both Belgium and Luxembourg" part of the press release seems to indicate that driving the car is JB's refuge for now.

Other stuff - anyone who can predict UCI response is a wizard. I have major concerns about the U23 team - hope they are not ditched.

From the LT press release

Leopard will continue to hold its existing UCI World Tour License

RS has 13 riders under contract for next year. LT has 27. Regardless of who is let go LT riders will make up the majority of the team.

The new team will be 100% RadioShack riders and 0% LeOpard.

Of course Becca is holding the license. If Leopard folded, Cancellara, Schlecks and others would be free to go. This way they are under contract so they have to stay because there is "no change" just a new sponsors and even though that technically Shack is just joining the Leopard team, in reality they are taking over.

Note that "inner circle" riders stay. I'm surprised Canc signed on with no classics team. Its fairly obvious the Shlecks were approached and agreed to the plan with Becca. What's sad is Andy and Frank asked a lot of the Saxo riders to get on board the Leopard train to now abandon them.

I was thinking the same thing. Taking almost the entire team with you to LeoPard and now not having space for them in the new team is sad for the ones who left Saxo with Andy and Frank. Hopefully all riders can still find teams for next year.

I guess start ups in cycling is like jumping to a start up in the business world. Sometimes you win and make lots of money, sometimes you lose and end up in the unemployment line.

in all of this the most painful will be to have to see the a whole group of cyclists including the schlecks and the wc time triallist and classics star cancellara have to promote (involuntarily) the very hounorable but nonetheless dubious livestrong foundation and all of its association. i really doubt all of the leopards deep in their hearts want to wear a yellow bracelet and become associated (via mega marketing) with all aspects of what it represents. im sad, money and power always wins..
