I'm sure Morrissey would have been keen to get himself involved after comparing the Olympic festivities to the Nuremberg rallies.

That is hilarious and so true.

They should have got somebody like Genesis P-Orridge or Steve Ignorant to contribute. That would have improved things 1000%. Instead we got Russell Brand.

Brand was terrible.

The closing ceremonies was like a giant Milli Vanilli concert. I felt embarrassed for the real musicians who took part.

Since this thread is still going...

The opening ceremonies were strange, but at least they had Mike Oldfield, who is incredibly talented.

The closing ceremonies were strange, and bad. Between weak musicians, lip syncing and very odd design and look to it, plus there was a real lack of energy or grandure. Maybe if I were English...

Let's hope the Ruskies can do better in two short years, and we get the giant party everyone exoects in Rio.

How about Clash - London Calling, Pistols- God Save the Queen followed by Smiths- How Soon is Now?
That would have been cool, a punk Olympics! But while both Clash and SP still tour at times, they're pretty thinned out with too many dead members.

That game of Basketball is severely disabled. Sorry, I can´t help, even after seeing the so called dream team now, it´s actually worse than soccer...
No disagreement here! Though college and women's basketball is more dynamic and fun to watch. One of the worst ideas ever was to add the NBA to the Olympics.

Always said it looks more natural for women. Actually i like that. But when men, bulked up like NFL-Linemen, throw like this and pretend no touch... well, it looks gay. ;)

Sorry, didn´t want to offend somebody, just my opinion.

There was little snippets of both London Calling and God Save the Queen during the opening sequence of the Opening Ceremony where they followed the river into London. I had a bit of laugh at that and thought it was just Danny Boyle being a little subversive. lol

I thought the opening ceremony was pretty good as far as they generally go. Usually there is some long narrative that bores the crap out of everyone, but they managed to pump a lot of music through it to make it less of a yawn fest. The Arctic Monkeys were a good and not overly obvious choice for me.
The Closing Ceremony was less impressive and some of the "talent" was questionable, but the formalities didn't drag on in either which was good.

Does anyone know if Danny Boyle was involved in the Closing Ceremony or only the Opening?

Only the opening as I understand it. That said, some of his movies start of really well and then fall apart at the end e.g. Sunshine, 28 Days Later so perhaps he did have a hand in it ;)
