'Magic Potion'

Watching an old CBS Paris Roubaix from 1985 near the end of the race all the riders are taking swigs from little hip flasks or small bottles (much smaller than their standard bidons). It's so obvious that Phil Liggett say's, 'All the riders have their own secret potion you know. But it's not dope, the controls are far too strict.' :D

Interestingly in the 86 editions and after their is no footage of said 'potion bottles'.

If you can find a copy of the CBS coverage of the 89 tour, during the first TT I seem to remember US commentators doing a histrionic take on Delgado having a swig of his magic potion. Later in the mountain stages, I also seem to remember American riders with their own potions but nothing being said by Trautwig or Sam Posey or whatever lame commentator they sent that year.

The Bobets

Jean Bobet talked about his and Louison's trainer mixing up some magic juice for some tiny flasks in 'Tomorrow We Ride." He implied that it wasn't doping, but that's a little hard to believe. What else could it be?
