They stayed with Cav for about 2 minutes. Then everyone but Eisel left him. That those riders didn't make it back to the peloton has nothing to do with them staying with Cav.
LOL. You just said it yourself. They stayed with Cav for 2 minutes. The gap was already 30 seconds by then, at least. Of course they wouldn't all have been dropped if they didn't wait for Cav initially. Which they never should have done.

How much of the race did you actually see?
I saw enough. You say there was nothing to stop EBH moving up to the front... Except him only having one team mate of course, and true professionals like Liquigas drilling it with half their team.

I like Cav but today he was wrong by letting his team do that. If you're not good enough you don't use your team like that. And it was a bad call from Sky too. My opinion.

Ok, my opinion is that Sky can not magically transfer riders between groups which are 2 minutes apart, so the criticism that they should have supported Eddy after the gap grew to 2 minutes is just rubbish,

They made a judgement call and it went wrong much quicker than expected, such that they were left with no tactical options. There were no tactical mistakes after that initial call - it was pull the group or all give up by that stage.

EBH 25th? I actually expected more from him even without good support from his team in the end. When it gets over 250k he just doesn't have the extra power in the end.

if he was good enough, more than one teammate is not necessary. look at all the greats... canc does not need them, same with phil, tom etc.

Gratz to Gerrans.
Nonsense the bashing about Liquigas, they made the perfect move with Nibali (of course the only way to win for him was alone).
BTW the order for Sagan was to follow Cancellare and the like should they have followed Nibali (just said in the interview by Nibali).

Well OK I will not argue more about that one :)

Has Cavendish or anyone from Sky talked about it already?

Simon Gerrans has scored 711 points on CQ in 2012.

In 2011, by this point, he had managed 106. 70 of those came from finishing 3rd in his nationals - the rest from a 4th in a stage of the TDU, 11th in the Volta ao Algarve, and 5 just for finishing Paris-Nice.

What, Boonen was 22nd and he didn't crash, you wouldnt say he didnt have power. It was because of his bad posititong at Poggio. Mainly because of Sky **** up sending riders for useless Cav.

It's confirmed on twitter, it was Trentin that crashed btw

We have seen that many times in sport.

Time for Canc to rethink his tactics to win races if he can only win by attacking and TTing to the win.

He needs to make sure no one goes with him.

He needs to just stop pedaling when whey won't work, why get a 2nd and give someone else a win. Or tap the brakes and force them to the front, there's ways of getting them up there.

Uhuh. EBH isn't Cancellara, but that doesn't mean he can't win.

Yes, but none of those would've been close either if they started Poggio in 40th position...

Again, he said he had great legs. Just a tactical failure, both from him and Sky. Löfkvist also failed really hard at doing the only thing he should have done - i.e spent all his energy on getting Edvald to the front before Poggio.

Must admit i was surprised to see EBH in a good position one minute and then be right at the back after that. Its easier said than done but he should have tried to move up before Poggio rather than being in a poor position. If he was feeling that good then he should have been able to make more progress.

As to him finishing that far down, i think he largely gave up once the group and chase group went ahead.

If it wasn't for Cancellara, it would have been a massive sprint and Sagan would have won it. I fill bad for Cancellara. He deserv to win this.

no... he didn't. he is stronger than a bull but for what? why does he has to go while climbing from 10km out? why not for once wait for others to chase and attack each others?

the fact his, he isn't ready to lose races. mentally he is far from being the best. same happened with boonen. this does not happen to valverde, bettini, etc.
